Hmmmmmmm...
271hp, no front LSD, no AYC or ACD.... sounds a helluva lot like a WRX w/ stage 0... and you want me to pay 30 G's for that? Yeah, sign me up. Oh well, it least it looks really japanese. And the SRT-4 guys are gonna drool all over it.

Looking at straight numbers, it's probably comparable to the STI we will get, and since the STI doesn't have any YAC or ACD, it will actually be cheaper than the STI. We'll have to wait and see. I'm sure they will do comparo's in every mag.

No ACD or AYC because then the gas tank could only be around 9.5 gallons (This is what a Mitsu engineer in the US told me - but he also told me that the US model will have a single fender mount intercooler and that pic of the LA show clearly shows a Front Mount)

hey there
the new evo from initial reviews should perform very simliarly to the old 7. when scc did a little comparo between a slightly modded wrx and an evo, the evo took the rex by a car length over all (read: it barely took it in the numbers). but the writters overall feeling was the evo was superior in almost all catagories.
the rex is more civil around town, and from reviews, it looks like the mitsu is a better racer out of the box. is that good for everyone? no. i am going to be getting a new car in the next 6-8 months, and if the STi is here in time, i will have to make a tough decision. i of course am leaning toeard the suby. i also think about a GF8 project all the time. swap a ej20 and maod the hell out of it, and i have one hell of a street car. but i also want a car that is SOMEwhat civil around town (right, mr coiolovers himself )...
no matter how you look at it, the EVO is a great car, and i can't wait to drive one. just eh fact it is here might get some of the other manufacturers to bring other awd pocket rockets to the US (i would LOVE to see a cossie focus here, even if it is a ford).
bring on the STi. i cant wait to see the specs on that car...suby knows what ehy are up against now, and the early release of the EVO given suby the advantage developing the STi.

THe US spec EVO is watered down though Mitsu is promising to bring Front LSD and the rest in as options later on. So I guess we'll see the real battle when the STI does come.
For now, our REX will just get spanked. No doubt.

Can't wait til the specs come out on the STi. I suspect Subaru wanted to wait until Evo is announced so that it can match or beat price/performance quotient. With Evo coming in at 271/273, I bet STi will come in at least that if it's prices it higher. Hopefully I can get more info at the STi preview this weekend.
In the past, Evo always had slightly better numbers than the STi. But Evos were usually priced higher than the STi. So when picking which car is better, it really depends on what your priorities are. Evos are quicker and sharper while STi are more civilized and balanced. With high maintenance history of previous Evos, it's a higher stressed car than the STi compounded by all the electronic trickery. Evo body changes every 2 years or less(so far). STi is more reliable and durable.
Anyway, I think it's great that Mitsu is bringing in the Evo. Looks like these rally bred cars will be a big hit here and will create competition among makers and open the floodgates to more of them from other makers.
