Help with surround sound installation

So I'm helping my girlfriend's dad with installing his new TV and surround sound system (LG LHB336) and I have everything hooked up correctly but I noticed on the Blu-Ray home screen and on the screen saver it has a bunch of white "crackling" dots on the whole screen that are really annoying.

Does anyone know what's causing this? I've tried using different HDMI ports but it's the same on each one.

Also when I first change inputs the screen screws up and flashes random colors on the bottom of the screen.

Plug the blu-ray unit into another TV (if you have access to another TV), and see if the problem still exist. If it does, try switching the HDMI cable.

Ok I just ran home and grabbed another hdmi cable and it works perfectly. Must be a defective cord. Thanks.

Yup, white sparklies are definitely from a bad HDMI cable...
