It's not sarcasm & it's not 2 cars. It's actually the full name of the car. It's AWD, under $35K (Granted that's MSRP, Dealer Markup may screw with that price) & it's not taller/higher off the ground than the Outback.

The only portion that I am not 100% on is if it can comfortable fit the 4 Six Footers. However, it pretty much is the largest of the vehicles they make and fits at least 3 out of the 4 criteria of what you posted (the 4th criteria would need to be checked out at an actual dealership though to determine if it truly is "too small"). Surprisingly they are actually decently roomy though, but 2 people the same height can have different dimensions which makes a car either acceptable or not acceptable to own.

Typically though, the European based cars tend to have more interior room to fit larger people more comfortably than the typical Japanese cars.

Also, here's a list of Road & Track's Top 10 AWD Cars for 2011 that might help you see what other options are out there.

http://www.roadandtrack.com/special-...ars-for-winter

Also, here is the Consumer Guide for what looks to be All of the AWD Vehicles being offered in the U.S. as new 2011 models.

http://consumerguideauto.howstuffwor...wd-or-4wd1.htm

Based on the above list you could try looking at a Ford Taurus or Fusion or a Dodge Charger R/T or maybe a Volvo S60.

Gotcha. I didn't realize it had such a long *** name. Yeah, I saw one in town a few weeks back and it didn't seem anywhere near large enough. The biggest problem I can see is that there isn't a whole lot of cargo room in the rear. I imagine I should go sit in one just to confirm, but I think it's just too small.

Buy the Volvo. I heart those things. Great cars, totally fun to drive and roomy.

I don't know how much they are, but what about a used Allroad? Another car I really like that I'm near certain would fit your height requirements.

Buy a Mini Clubman (one of the stupidest automobiles I've seen in a long time) and I'll smack you by proxy. You're too far to drive to. Haha.

While I do like them, they require premium fuel and get worse gas mileage than the Outback. Rear legroom is less as well (2.5" less ) Additionally, they're not as reliable as the Outback will inevitably be and parts/service are more $$.

I've been considering an A6 avant or All Road, but again, they require premium fuel and get worse mileage than the Outback. Same thing as the Volvo regarding service/maintenance as I could only afford one that is a few years old

The Clubman is the 2.5 door Cooper so that's definitely a no go. The Countryman is the four door and it's just too small for a family car IMHO. Kids take up a ton of space with all their damn gear.

AWD's don't have good gas mileage, at least from what I've noticed. If you wanted some gas saver go for a Honda or hybrid. Other than that, since SUVs are out of the question, just get some sedan.

No sht. Here's the thing. I've got requirements and one of those is AWD as we frequent the snow quite a bit during the winter and I will NOT deal with chains again.

This has to be our family vehicle to fit all needs and therefore has to be AWD. When considering alternatives, fuel economy plays a rather large part what with the cost of gas these days.

What "Honda or Hybrid" fits the requirements that I've already posted? Sedans don't fit into the equation as there isn't enough storage room.

Then what the hell are you *****ing about? This thread is one of those "poor me I need attention" You're already set on an AWD for the snow and KNOW that most of those cars do not have great gas mileage.

Everyone else tosses their .02 cents and it just ends up back where you began. Not too sure where this "Help me choose" bull crap came from, you already chose and want to put it up for debate for... thread space?

Worried about Gas? Honda
Need AWD? Subaru
Need both? Probably one or two cars might fit the bill. Not too hard to figure that out yourself. Probably ugly, probably more plastic than you want in it.
Volvo, great, too expensive on parts, etc. Not too sure what you wanted from the thread besides reinforcing your point of just grabbing an outback.

Without doing much research, I'll toss out the Toyota Venza.

The back is pretty roomy... at least as roomy as the 05-06 Outbacks we were looking at. That being said, I still wish they moved the back seat back a bit at the expense of a little cargo room. Its ridiculous how much stuff you can fit back there! Then if you put the seats down, its basically a truck bed

The front seats are very comfortable for long drives. They're not all that sporty though... more like riding around in a comfy lazy boy.

So far so good, but we haven't owned it for too long. They seem to have pretty good records and Volvo is known to be reliable all around.

We got this car with about 80k miles on it with full service records. There were zero major issues with it and the owner was very ****. There were records of him bringing it in for squeeky windows and squeeky wipers

That's true... it does require premium as any other turbo engine. The gas mileage, however, is pretty decent for an AWD car this size. We're getting an average of 20.7 mpg and we're not driving it too nicely either.

I love the Allroad too and seriously considered one, but a bit of research led me to believe they are extremely unreliable and VERY expensive to maintain. We really needed a workhorse that will last a long time and the Volvo seemed to fit the bill.

These are EXACTLY the things I was looking for in this car and while the Volvo may not be perfect, it seemed to fit our needs better than anything else in that price range. Note that the new Outbacks were out of our price range, so I can't really compare to those.

Geez. Just wondering if there were any vehicles that I hadn't thought of yet. You didn't even need to click on the thread if you didn't have anything positive to add.
