headers question
im looking into buying a header/uppipe combo and looking around i see megan and jvt i was originally going to go with megan but i haven't heard anything about jvt so im asking here
link to JVT? Megan headers have been known to crack. But some people had success without cracking and/or subframe rubbing.
Of course if it rubs the frame just remove it and save 25 pounds.
Really though, headers are a lame mod. You should upgrade the turbo and maybe get alcohol injection first. Headers is a mod you do when you've already done every other mod in the book.

Not really. I just put on some Tomei headers recently and the difference and butt dyno is off the charts. Low and mid range is so smooth plus it feels like the car runs strong all the time. All I have is up/dp/catback and the headers. Felt much better and more powerful than my "stage 2" with a AP tune.

I wouldn't say headers are a worthless mod. I just put some HKS headers on my car and I my butt dyno can feel the difference. It won't be as big a difference as a tbe and tune, but I would say headers give you about 12-15 whp and 20-30 wtq.
I also had my headers done at AHQ and we did some measurements of the Zerosports, Tomei, and HKS headers. I went w/ an HKS header/up pipe combo and the inner diameter of the HKS headers and up-pipe are very similar to stock. The up-pipe and collector of the header is actually smaller than stock by a little bit. The Tomei and Zerosports headers have a larger than stock collector and up-pipe diameter. If I remember correctly the collector was around 50-55 mm while stock is close to 40-45mm and the up-pipe is also around 50mm.
With all that said, I'd prob have went w/ the Tomei headers if I didn't already purchase the HKS. Since I have a 2.5L engine I think the larger diameter of the up-pipe would have helped increase spool up and top end power. Also the 3-bolt flange at the collector is less prone to leaking.
Hope that helps. If you've already done the tbe and tune then want a little extra go for the headers. Also the Zerosports headers are damn nice if you want to splurge and get some awesome quality and light weight headers go that route, but at $2k for headers and up-pipe thats too much for me.
TurnWRX: which car is yours? I've prob seen it around Kevin's shop.

i want to stay away from alcohol and meth injection there is to much of a risk of my engine blowing up for me...

Equal length headers (Perrin, APS, etc) will provide the most significant gains.
Please remember that "cheap" parts are cheap for a reason.

u sure the Zerosports header is $2k? I highly doubt it cause I don't think even Kevin would have gotten that at that price, even with his Shiganori discount. He would have gotten the Cusco headers instead.
My car has been in and out his shop a couple times over the past 2 weeks. My car is a wrb bugeye with gold mesh bbs rgr's with chrome lip.

The Full-Race headers look pretty hot.

I think SpeedElement uses the Evo version on their car. Of course, the header and up-pipe cost an arm and a leg and 2 kidneys so it isn't on top of my "to buy list" yet.
