yuppers...

remember folks...

just because the channel claims to be in HD, it aint really HD.

also, the digital transition that is now scheduled for middle of june mean that the station stops it's broadcasting of analog signal.

but digital doesnt not nececelery mean HD. HD is a subset of digital tv.

what's odd is ENTERTAINMENT TONITE has been listed as HD for weeks. it wasnt until recently did i see their program in glorious HD.

right now, i think KPIX has the best looking HD. even from the start (well at least for me, which is early 2000'ish), their football stuff always has look great in HD.

second is KTVU. this is weird since they are FOX O&O and technically supposed to broadcast in 720p. but they actually uppie their signal sometimes to 1080i, when they have the program.

i remember 7-8 years ago when they broadcasted the chinese new year in glorious 1080i... wow...

third is KQED. granted i barely watch any of their shows. the NOVA stuff though looks beautiful. they were also one of the early adopters.

KNTV is making a good charge. a couple or so years ago, they moved locations and made a full effort to go 100% digital...

KGO is the wildcard. them and KPIX were one of the early adopters, but since they are part of the DISNEY family, they are still stuck on 720p. and since more TVs are 1080i, the TV converters really make a diff. but once again... i hate their news programs that use SD material and stretch it... sigh...

KRON... sometimes they HD... sometimes they dont. oh well... they are an indie station.

finally, KBCW has great HD prime time shows. they are my oddball fav station since the CW has a few shows i record. stuff like REAPER, SMALLVILE and SUPERNATURAL...

nope...

it's still GIGO...

my first HD set was a 38" CRT. it sucked then... and it still sucks on a 46" LCD...

do those $200 hdmi cables help you too?
i doubt your tv is gonna help your SD channels come in any better..
i have seen SD channels come in looking ****ty on every HDTV ive seen.

comcast, directtv, and uverse all broadcast in 720... so... (unless you count the "on demand download the movie in 1080 but im talking about regular shows and live sports)

my tv (vizio) displays a perfectly beautiful picture when i am watching shows in HD, or sports in HD. so it has the capability of displaying a beautiful picture.. so... i clearly don't need a multi-thousand dollar tv to get a good picture.. say if i got a pioneer elite for example, that's not gonna fix it.

dude nothing is as lame as seeing "MORE HD!!!1lol!!" commercials by comcast on a HD channel and the commercial is in standard definition!! haha. god how lame.

lame meaning terrible marketing.. if someone is at a friends house and they see the commercial they should be blown away. not seeing a standard def commercial that actually looks worse than the person might have at home on their CRT TV.

yeah and not to mention HD channel broadcasting standard def with sports.. that makes me ****ing furious haha.

You are not right all the time Greg, sometimes you have to keep a open mind and think that sometimes you can be wrong lol, not a lot but just so metimes. I can tell you right now that Comcast, Directv, and Uverse work in 720p AND 1080i. Right now I'm watching my TV on 1080i with uverse, so you can pick 1080i or 720p. And yes getting a multi thousand dollar tv can fix some of that problem, The really high end tv's have something called the Faroudja Scaler that can up convert a non HD picture to look close to a HD picture's quality. That's what makes the older fujitsu, Pioneer, and brand new Samsung's look so good.

i refuse to believe that a tv show filmed in 480 can be upconverted to 1080 with the same exact results as if you filmed the show/movie/sports game in 1080.
and why would i want to run my progressive scan tv in interlace mode?

Cause tv can run in progressive or interlace, all 4 of the tv;s in my home can, and I said nothing about 1080p I said they can upconvert the picture close to a hd picture

I don't have an HDTV, and I'll resist buying one, just too much money for a TV which I don't watch anyways

All of my money goes to my RS Swapped WRX.

this is one reason I said screw it and the last time I moved I didn't get cable. I now save $90 a month and don't get cable/satellite and watch 70% of the shows I used to via hulu.com, cbs.com, abc.com or downloading from torrents on my 46" dlp and the quality is almost the same. I don't understand why people pay for TV anymore.

Its not hard depending on the computer and the inputs on the tv. My old pc used to have s-video in/out and fiber optic out.

Sell your tv and don't watch it anymore. Problem solved, haven't watched tv since October 2007. Its a wasted of time and makes the day go by longer as your waiting for a program to come on!
