First time doing taxes using both TurboTax and e-filing this year. I have a question. Since I don't know where I put my 2006 tax paperwork I don't have the information to verify that I'm the original person to be able to use the electronic signature option. So the turbotax software instructs me that I need to print out form 8453-OL for both federal and state, sign it and then mail it. Federal is straightforward, with address and all, but they didn't provide an address or what to do with the form 8453-OL for CA except for signing it. I checked the CA FTB website and they said not to mail the form to them.

Does that mean that the state will be able to process my tax return without the 8453-OL signature?

 

does turbotax have a number for you to call?

i've been doing efile for the last couple of years but always had the necessary info so never had to mail it in. Or how about give IRS a call? i've called them couple of times. Believe it or not the wait time was very short and they were very nice and good about answering my questions. good luck!

 

It means you have to have it on file if they decide to audit you.

 

Do your federal free on the turbo tax site, and e-file through them.

then file your state free on calfile http://www.ftb.ca.gov/online/calfile/index.asp

calfile filled out all the information on the 8453-OL form for me, and at the end i just printed it, signed and mailed.

print out the 8453-OL from calfile and sign it since you cannot electronically sign, then mail it within the next couple weeks.
