Ebay buyer filed paypal dispute against me.

Looking for advice from anyone who has had a buyer dispute a sale. I feel that I described the item sold very accurately, the buyer is stating that the phone is defective, which it was not when I sold and shipped it to him, it had ios4.3.5 on it and worked perfectly. I imagine he tried to unlock it or jailbrak it and screwed something up. Paypal has placed a negative acount balance on my account for the amountof the sale. Will they automatically believe him? Thanks for any advice.

Here is the original ebay ad.

Sorry to say, but paypal is probably going to side with him.

Dude has 142 feedback, they always side with me whenever I file a dispute no matter what the issue is, if the dude buys a lot they'll side with him and just have him ship back the phone.

Do you have documentation of the serial number/imei? make sure he didn't pull the ol' switcharoo

If he received the item, then you are in good shape. Ebay transactions may have more complex rules however. I had some guy try and bleed money out of me on a forum sale I for a friend. I misplaced the bolts for some camber plates, and by the time I found them and got them to him, he had missed a track day (according to him). He tried to hold me financially responsible for his track day expenses through a Paypal dispute, even though he had received the item. In my response to the dispute I mentioned that he had received the item, complete, and that his poor planning was not my fault.

Paypal responded that they do not deal with the quality of an item, only that it is received. Once he escalated it to a claim, it was dismissed.

Hope that helps, although I suspect Ebay transactions are a little more complex.

Paypal is making him goto a third party to validate his claim. He is stating that it does not work, but I took pictures of the phone working showing the home screen and setting screen where the firmware is and serial number. I think he tried to unlock it or jailbrak it and screwed something up.

Will do, he has 10 days from 2 days ago to get the third party to inspect it. Just hoping the shop is reputable and not some shady place. Anyway, will post up with the outcome. Fingers crossed.

^ Pretty much, meanwhile the value of a 3gs isn't getting any better. But if it comes back, I will just send it off to gazelle and not deal with ebay anymore on it.

x-3. Funny because I just got my 3gs for free from an upgrade deal and this schmuck not only paid easily $168 but broke the phone and will likely be S.O.L. and have a bad seller's remark showing now. Rake the buyer over the coals Derek!

This is one reason why I sell/buy stuff on Craislist over Ebay.
