stalling?
how long did it take you guys to get used to driving your first manual transmission vehicle? my girl friend wants to know because shes stalling like 2- 3 times a day while driving and she feels bad. shes only been driving a manual for 2 days now and i told her not to worry because it will take about a week to get comfortable driving the stick.
i remember it probably took me about a week when i first started driving a stick and i was rough with it for about a month before i was smooth.
just looking for some input so she does not feel so bad.

tell her my story.
I brought my car to LIC to get the auto swapped out for a manual. Noah, one of the owners of the shop, had to give me a half hour lesson so I could actually drive away from the shop. I stalled a few times a day for the first few weeks. The main thing is when you stall is to not get frustrated, sit and relax, and try again...throw on your hazards and sit there if you have to (I had to do that on 19th in SF on my way home from LIC). To speed up the learning, its best to practice in a safe setting where there aren't any cars around, this way she can get a better feel for her car without the pressure of holding up other people

It took me about a week or so to get it down and about a month to be completely smooth... Only thing that sucks is that I crashed my Suby and the Van I drive now is Automatic... Luckily my little sister's Honda in stick so I steal that every once in a while... and I gotta say... the Honda is like butter compared to the Suby.

haha, yeah. You start out focusing really hard, then you start to get it down and you're like "god damnit I have to do all this **** every time I drive?" and then a week later you don't even think about it
Most people suck at it for a long time. When I look back on when I first got my STi, I could barely drive for a few days, I could decently drive after about 2 weeks and it took about 3-4 months until my shifts became smooth and I didn't have to think. 6 months until I got down rev matching, heal-toe, double-clutching etc. Tell her just to keep driving and it will come to her.

it probably took me 1-2 weeks to get totally used to it, tell her not to feel bad
