Halp?

A bit of an odd request, I know, but I'm hoping some kind soul(s) out there can help.

It looks like I'll be in the market for a car in the next 3-4 weeks here, and given my present situation, I've narrowed things down to the BRZ and WRX Hatch. I'm having quite a time finding a BRZ locally that I can sit in and test drive (even trying to find an FR-S just to have some kind of experience) and am hoping someone might be up to letting me check theirs out. Same thing for the WRX hatch. Ultimately, if I can't find anyone, I'll break down and go to a dealership, but I figured I'd try asking for help first.

Subaru/Scion of Oakland has 3 BRZs and 2 FR-S in stock as of Sunday.

Scion of San Francisco had 3 FR-S on Sunday as well.

There is an FR-S on the lot of Dublin Toyota as of last night (not sure if it is still there today or not).

Odd...neither of them list this on their website, unless I'm going to the wrong site. I've double checked. Thanks for the information either way, I'll have to check out the Oakland one.

Edit: OK, found the FR-S' listed on the Scion of SF site, thanks again! Still not seeing the inventory for the Oakland one, though. I shall give them a ring.

Not very close, but I appreciate the information. I did find some about an hour or two away at dealerships, but nothing close (like Oakland, Concord, SF, etc.). Then again, I haven't called any, I'm going by what they have listed on their site (which I know isn't always kept up to date).

Awesome, thank you sir. I will be down in San Jose in a week or two, so I'll shoot you a PM and see if you're around.

Thanks again all!

BRZ and the WRX hatch are two totally different cars, both awesome. BUT TOTALLY DIFFERENT.

If you need practicality, get the hatch. If you don't, get the BRZ. And don't compromise just because you can't find one or the other.

Oakland had the following:

Dark Grey BRZ Limited - Loaded with Alcantara interior (auto)
White BRZ Premium - No fancy extras (manual)
Blue BRZ Premium - Some extras can't remember what (manual)

Hot Lava FR-S - Bunch of extras, leather (auto)
Black FR-S - Didnt see this one, it was in storage or something.

With the BRZ, anything that is/was on the lot won't be there for very long and it's a high probability that the car is already spoken for.

That said, even if you do find one. They're probably not going to let you drive it until they have you at a signature away from sold.

The most promising thing you can do is to put in an order for one and have it in May.

All of the ones I looked at on Sunday were available and I was able to drive both the BRZ and the FR-S without any questions.

Hmm... Why would it be so different? The South Bay dealers are treating them like gold.

I actually managed to find a BRZ yesterday, so I got a nice test drive. Awesome car, overall. The one I drove was used and fully loaded. Engine start button, dual climate control, nav, etc. Top end is pretty slow, of course. It's peppy otherwise. And it handles amazingly well. I really enjoyed driving it. But, of course, it's completely impractical if it's your only car, so I had to pass. Oh, that and they wanted 35k for it (used with 7,500+ miles).

I had driven a 2012 Mustang GT earlier in the morning. The seats were surprisingly comfortable, the interior was eh (not terrible, but not great). I liked the torque and gearing, for the most part, but the top end is deceptively fast. You don't feel like you're moving, but if you look down at the speedo, you find that you are. Overall, didn't really feel...connected to the car. I enjoyed it, but not enough to make me feel that I had to get it.

The last car I drove was a base WRX sedan. The interior was also meh, but it was simple and functional. The seats were OK. I liked the torque and feel of AWD. And it's also very practical (especially the hatch).

I think I've pretty much settled on a WRX hatch at this point, so we'll see.

Thanks again for all the responses/offers!

I like the newer WRX's a lot. Lots of potential with few parts as well.

If you end up in San Jose and want to test drive a wrx hatch with some added love, feel free to hit me up. I'm on coilovers with sway bars. Short shifter with bushings, intake, exhaust, accessport, etc. stage 2...

Here's my .2 if I were in the market for a car and had those options.

I would go with a wrx, there is nothing like a turbo spool, it's much faster, there is a bigger parts market, awd is amazing, gas isn't bad, tons of room with a 5 door.

That's just me, I like the brz but owing a 2 door car isn't practical, I owned a jeep wrangler tj and hated only having 2 doors. I didn't think it would be a problem but it's just a hassle getting people in and out of the car showin them where the lever is and how to get the seat forward.
Also very crammed.

I like the look of the brz a lot, great handling car, but to me awd is what Subaru is about. If I were to get a 2 door coupe I'd probably get a 350z.
Now if Subaru comes out with a turbo brz... I'll be all over that.

Either way your going to own a great car. Subarus are amazing, rwd or awd, turbo or not, you will have fun and meet some great people.
