Some sound advice from Noah.

I would add to the caged part, I would not run a cage in a daily driven car if you have a wreck and catch the cage with your head there is a good chance you'll end up very seriously hurt as a cage is designed to work in tandem with other driver safety aids which it's unlikely you'll be using in a car you drive on the street.

I vote you keep the RS like it is, perhaps spend 2-3k on it fixing it up. Take the 15-16k left over, buy a forester XT and bring some wagon love

(Hey plus think of how many rifles and targets you can hall in the XT...then again I am biased for the foresters)

Since I totaled my WRX, I need a new car. Right now I have a beat up 2000 2.5RS coupe with some body damage (nothing that can't be repaired easily), and my wife's ford exploder, so we have two cars... I've kept the RS around because it has been an icon in my life, so many memories, events, its the car that started everything, and I can't just go and sell it to some kid for almost nothing... The RS needs work even though it has a new tranny and engine, everything else needs love since that car has been to hell and back.

Proposition:

F'* buying a brand new evo or STi and spending money on top of my already 18k, instead, why not convert my RS into the beast I've always wanted it to be? For starters:

1. STi Drive train (Engine and Transmission)
2. Suspension re-do (something rough)
3. weld in roll cage (chassis flex)
4. Big brakes
5. Paint job = Flat black, satin black, white?

Think I can do a REALLY good job with 18k?

What would YOU do in my shoes?
Dude,

With this economy, why spend all the 18k you just got?

I'd freshen up the RS with new bushings, maybe a new suspension if you still have those damn HAs on there, and be happy with it. Cause seriously, you've missed a lot of work lately, and you might need that cash down the road.

I agree with Noah.. I would love to turn my RS into a beast as well but if it got into an accident you wouldn't get **** for it back after dumping all that money into it.

Just spend a few thousand on getting it running sound and looking nice and wait a while to see what would put that money into better use. If it was still spring I'd tell you to buy a motorcycle because of gas prices but it's prolly gonna start raining in a month...

gotta be hella smart with your money, especially nowadayz

18K is nothing. At the end of the day your going to end up with a POS that you'll want to sell. Keep it for a rainy day...

Buy a lot of gold...

"Billion dollar fund manager David Tice says that the Federal Reserve’s ceaseless printing of dollars could cause gold to surge past $2,000 an ounce, while the Dow could fall below 5,000."

(OK so it comes from a crackpot website- http://www.prisonplanet.com/billion-...k-to-5000.html )

Well if you choose to swap it. LIC all day long son!

I'd probably save it honestly. Go back to puttin around with the GC and do some mild suspension bits to it.

Save your $$$.
I was in an accident recently, and boy am I happy I don't have car payments right now. I know we all get pleasure/enjoyment out of our cars. They reward us with fun and zero dollars return on our investment. I don't know the details of you accident, but be thankful you are alive and do something meaningful with the money. I bet you and you wife would like a vacation somewhere nice. Just my $.02.
Take care.
