Got ticket for exaust... please advise

I know you have to pay to play... But this still sux.

CHP pulled me over after rolling his window down to listen to my exaust. BTW it's a very dirty and non-ricey APS 3-2.5'' and it's not that loud.

Well... I got cited for modiffied emissions and no front plate.

Does anyone know how much this will cost?

I would really appreciate a detailed description of the whole ref. inspection. What they look at and how the whole thing goes down.

They must be really cracking down cause there was no reason for him to mess with me. Just felt like ruing my already long day. I was thinking of putting it back to stock, getting it checked and passed, putting it all back on and insisting with paper in hand that I already went through this and I'm legal if it happens again. You guys think that'll fly?

Thanks in advance,

Ash

all you have to do is pay $10 and find a cop to write off the ticket. when it happened to me, i went to the chp station and the guy didnt even come out to my car. he asked me if i changed it and then said "oh ok, no problem. here let me sign that" and that was it. this was no more than 3 weeks ago. hope this helps

man... I really hope so... But my ticket says on it *no sing off by officer, state refferee only*

Did yours say that???

I have several officers in my family... that would be easy... I guess I wont know untill I get the ticket in the mail.

Rosette marked me for that, and that means you'll have to go down to the state ref and get it umm DB tested, which I think is free, but the certificate is like 8-9 bux. Modded exhaust means it's too loud, which is BS of course. And it would be a 10 dollar fix it at the court or whatever. The front plate thing is BS too, you can easily get that signed off by a cop, but Iono why cops are startin' to mark down you aren't allowed to get it signed by another officer.

If your exhaust is sub 95DB, you don't have to swap it out. And you can just run the test. For Scoobies the test is ran at 4k RPM. So if you want to see your DB before takin' it to the ref, just find someone around here with a DB tester, and hold a ref at 4k RPM, maybe even a little higher to see how far you got left 'til 95DB.

ANd of course the usual things about goin to the ref, a bunch of paper work, they don't do anything but rev the car and hold somethin' near it to test.

Modified emissions, now that's a pain in the ***. If you know the cop doesn't have proof (ie a picture under the car showing there is no cat) then you can just go to court and say there was a cat there, and that the cop never looked at it. Ask for the proof. If you are runnin' with no cats (or even maybe a high flow one, iono how much it'll protect) you'll have to get the car smogged. They stick somethin' into the pipe, and rev the car around 2500-3000-3500. They stick somethin' under the steering wheel whichs reads off electronically onto some machine they have to tell you if you're passin' emissions.

If you pass you get your certificate, if you fail, you will have to change it out, and come back and have it retested and then get your certificate. The second one should be free if you do have to come back. Smog check is sub 35 dollars.

wow.. That's really helpful... Thanks.

He didn't look under my car at all and didn't see anything under the hood accept my brand new top mount with APS written across it. He smiled as if he thought it was cool looking. Dummy never even checked for what he wrote me the ticket for. Unfortunately I'm proly going to have to pass smog. I don't think the stock exaust will pass if I leave the catless uppipe in.

You think???

Can I pass smog if I leave the catless uppipe in and put the oem turbo back on?

hmmm... That might be worth a try... I can always retest.

Catless UP with stock turbo back will pass easily...

but the UP has to be stock looking, so, a JDM one... NOT aftermarket.

If it says state ref only, you need to revert back to $100 stock (unless your UP is JDM or Gutted stock) and then have him run his tests...

what is the VC #?

27156b you think he can find the uppipe with my skidplate and stock airbox in the way. Do they really know what they're looking at? My APS uppipe is pretty normal looking, at least the part you can see. Will the state ref smog my car there?

When I got my car refereed, he didn't even look for the uppipe. All he did was look under the hood (for intake, bov, etc), then used a mirror and looked for the DP cat and exhaust cat, and then threw it on the sniffer. I passed and was gone in 15 minutes. Damn if a CHP rolls up on me with his window down I'm just going to laugh at him... I wonder if giving fix-it tickets makes their dicks hard... ****ing cops with nothing better to do! I love it!

the part that doesnt make sence is that the APS turbo back is under the 95 db mark. somewhere around 90db. i have this exhaust and it very quiet at freeway speeds. to stupid stuff like that!

When I got smogged, the guy didn't even look at my Engine, he just looked at the exhaust from the back and he was done. The guy at smog at Sequioa or whatever. Just glanced at my Engine and saw stock parts, so he just let a couple of rookies smog the rest while he did the paper work.

do you know why this **** is happening is because the stupid F&F movies and the even stupider side show stuff that was happening in Oakland!!! UGG THIS MAKES ME SO MAD, and what right do the CHP guys have to pull you over for a loud exhaust , how do they know its more than 95db.. there must be a new law becasue the rangers are doing the same stuff for dirt bikes/ATV at the OHV parks. i mean there in the middle of no where why is there a sound minimum out there! ok im better now...

Yeah... I don't think I have much choice here... I can get really screwed if I try to get it certified with the utec and injectors and upipe still in. So I'm going to take it ALL out. Back to stock accept for the axle back. Man... this is going to be alot of work.
