Got pulled over yesterday...
At 4pm driving WB on Shoreline Blvd in Mt View, there was a Mt. View police car travelling in the same direction doing about 30 in the 35 zone. I crept by him and when I neared the left turn onto El Camino Real, he pulled behind me.
After making the left turn onto SB El Camino Real, the lights went on. There were too many cars parked on El Camino Real, so I signalled and pulled into the 'Just Tires' lot and turned off my engine.
The officer walked up and said, "The reason I pulled you over is for modified exhaust.". He asked when I had it installed. I told him about a month ago. He asked for my license, registration, and proof of insurance. He walked back to his vehicle.
I have a TurboXS TBE (thank goodness no RFL-TI) with the 'race pipe', and I was hoping he wasn't going to start looking all over the car or ask about 'Cats'.
He came back and said, "I'm letting you go, the exhaust isn't that loud."
Whoohoo!

Cops are really biased when it comes to exhausts. When's the last time you seen a cop pulling over a mustang or any american truck running w/ flowmasters or borla exhausts? Those are modified exhausts and are just as loud, or even loader than the exhaust in your car. Atleast he let you go, lucky you.

You should have done this after he decided to let you go:
"Officer, I really appreciate your willingness to be fair and honest. But I've read in section 27151 of the vehicle code that as long as I do not violate Article 2.5 starting at section 27200, that modifying an exhaust is not inherently illegal. As long as it meets the muffler and sound requirements in the vehicle code there is no blanket law against exhaust modification. So, if you didn't think my exhaust was that loud, why did you pull me over in the first place? .... well?... jerk?"
