true that. I don't mean to start a war, but I have to say. Can't we say the same for modern conservatism being interlaced with Christian fundamentalists? I'd like to think I am a a true conservative, but that means I hold my opinions to my own and don't like the feds prying in on me or the states for that matter. What's with all those Pro-life pro-choice hos? Honestly, conservatism in its' true sense (well, at least back in the day) would mean that I don't give a **** if a girl decides not to have a baby, while I might think its wrong, it's not my choice to make. so I guess that's why I don't really associate myself with any of these dumb parties in the states these days.

It doesn't matter what topic you choose, it's all about how engaging you are to your audience. Like someone posted earlier "there is no such thing as a boring topic, only boring speakers".

My buddy did a persuasive speech about why you should say Hi to the crossguards, and one on why you should pop your collar. They were excellent, engaging speeches.

My advice is to pick a topic that a lot of people actually are interested in.

Now back to writing my informative speech for my class ...

do a speach on how uncool it is to drive with one hand at the 12 o'clock position cause if you get in to an accident and the air bag goes off, you end up punching yourself in the face.

Talk about good driving techniques vs bad habits..
looking at the car in front of you instead of looking ahead passed the car.

You could also talk about how bad spam is on the internet and how this wonderful resource is being ruined by money greedy people.

why riding motorcycles are dangerous

from my speech class last semester i learned it's best to just go up and talk. don't bring up notes to read off of, cuz i know thats where i messed up. i would be constantly looking down tryin to see what i was going to say next and thats where the flow of your speech gets f'd up. just make good eye contact and speak naturally....and...like everything else practice practice practice!

"Philosophy" is not a topic for persuasive speech. Same for "smog laws".

"The US should create tougher smog laws" would be a topic for a persuasive speech.

It is very important that you understand the difference before you set out.

Also, if you try to persuade people to lift restrictions on smog, you will be doing what I suggested you avoid -- you'd be making people who side with you feel bad about themselves for choosing to pollute and be dirty. You will have a more difficult time persuading anybody, and some people won't be persuaded under any circumstances. If that person is your teacher, then you don't get a good grade.

I'd suggest that you pick a topic that everyone is familiar with. This will make your job a lot easier.

IMO, it is best to pick a topic that makes the audience feel like a good person for siding with you. If they have to bend their moral standards to agree, then you might be persuasive but you probably won't get the best grade. As an example, if you convince everyone to support euthanasia they will probably still have nagging doubts. However, if you convince them to use alternative energy and drive hybrid vehicles, they will feel like enlightened progressive reformers and your speech will enable them to feel good about agreeing with you. This is an easier way to get a good grade.

It was ridiculous, but I backewd it up with quotes taken completely out of context.

Have some fun, say something silly. As long as you can back it up, you will get a decent grade.

Yeah, look out for those Christian fundamentalists. The **** shacks might be unfairly forced out of your neighborhood, and the sticky-handed sex offenders won't get to hang out near your children's schools.

AHHAHAHAH no!!!!!! stop them!
