Give a speech on recycling. Sounds boring, right? Talk about joe doing oil changes in his back yard and dumping the oil in a whole or throwing it in the trash.

1 gallon of motor oil contaminates 1 million gallons of ground water.
Talk about people throwing oil filters in the trash, and how even that contaminates groundwater.

Recycling is starting to pick up in the U.S., but in some areas, aluminum, other metals, glass, plastics, and others add to mountains of landfill when they could be reused.
It takes enough energy to run a TV x hours to make 1 aluminum can...etc etc.
Used tires can be used in road materials and even tennis shoes.
Search for info overseas about recycling and charges for buying certain containers.
Anyway, I'm rambling, but there is a ton of info out there.

You can make a convincing speech about why it's important to recycle, and possibly correlate it to lower cost at the checkout line (per what they've had to do overseas to force people to do it.... or whatever angle you like)

i did a speech on california smog in my speech class last semester. it went over pretty well, but it was more of an informative speech than anything. i bet you could make it pursuasive by saying how much it sucks for car enthusiasts....like for old classics (theyre trying to remove the 30year smog allowance deal).. crappy poopoocaca haha

You should talk about how modern liberalism is a mental disorder. It's very interesting, persuasive, and true....sadly.

Yeah, but most teachers don't seem to like that too much. I like how you used the term...

How about persuading them not to smoke, or pepsi vs. coke. ooh or the whole low carb diet crap. Or even diet pills and how much of a capitalistic scheme they are.

heres an easy one...guys are better htan girls, lots of reasons why, easy rebuttals, and..u'll get lots of attention, but no prom date. lol, it was one of the examples in this book i read about writing an essay. anyways, just do subjects students actually care about, what would you want to hear about? talk about street racing, or how street racing is bad. there are a lot of ideas, and some of yours are pretty good, im not so sure about the smog hting, who would want to hear about that besides car enthusiasts?

when i had to do a persuasive speech i did it on how dangerous SUV's are. its amazing how much info you can find to back it, in a short amount of time. blind spots, rolling, bumpers at head level for cars, bad crash tests...

oh yes ide get suspened for something really stupid if i said that... even tho it is freedom of speech. Ill think of something do to do, she gave about 20 or so examples. like Has politcal correctness gone to far? Should the internet be censored? the hole thing about cell phones and a bunch of other stuff. i might end up doing the recycling speech, not sure yet

Should prisoners be able to vote?

^ ^ ^ That is what im going to do, i can think of lots of stuff to say on that topic. Heres my thesis statement; Since people in prison have violated the laws of this country, they have forfited there right to participate in the voting process. Or something close to that...

I did a persuasive speech on stem cell research a month ago. It was easy as hell to find books and up to date articles on it. You can relate it to your audience based on the imense numbers of people with diseases that it can help, and you can also mention politics. Suprisingly George W gave a bit of help to stem cell research (but not much), while his father had vetoed every bill for stem cell research

I like SklineR35gtrx's idea except say something about like how guys don't treat women like they do in the old days and how they should....blah blah blah. It'll win your teacher over if she is a female and getting a date for prom should be cake.
