That seems to be the general consensus...like I said, you live - you learn; but at the same time I question the usefulness of the HOV lane (at least here in the Bay Area - in L.A. it is necessary) most mornings/afternoons all three right lines will be at a dead stop - while the HOV lane has a car or two pass every few seconds.

hov lane around here is useless.
they are in the process of extending it through vallejo and fairfield. why not make 5 lanes of regular traffic instead of 4 bumper to bumper and 1 lane nobody can use?

I was in the HOV lane for ~200ft to pass a group of drivers doing 35mph (I understand its rush hour - but there was no one in front of them for 7 or 8 car lengths).
Stupid move, but you live, you learn.
My big question (I checked Ticket Assassin) is will this appear as a point on my licenses. I don't mind the fine (I intend on going to court for the discount though) I just don't want a point on my licenses when I've kept my nose clean for 3 years now.

It is not a moving violation from my understanding of it. One of my ex's got ticketed for it a couple times. She just had to pay the fines and it was done with.

I work in Mt View and live in SJ... it was nice when I could carpool, it was never more then a 25 min comute and now I have spent up to 2 hours to get home... it blows. The bay area drivers are horrible and cause more traffic then what should be there.

If I lived within 10 miles of a job, I would. I'm up to doing 11-12 miles easily on my bike now. If I didn't live 23 miles and a damn bridge from work I'd be biking LONG ago!

I stand corrected regarding the point on the record, thanks. We don't have any carpool lanes in Shasta County, yet. Still a big dent in your wallet, that's like my Christmas budget!
BTW if you ride a motorcycle or drive a low emmision vehicle (with the appropriate bumper sticker) you can be in the lane alone.
Also, if you drive a two seater (Miata, etc.) and have a passenger you can drive in a lane that requires 3 occupants (mostly southern Calif.).

I would, I really would if my schedule could afford it.
I have school until 9pm and am usually doing homework until midnight or 1am - then I get up at 7:00am to get to work by 8am. If I biked to work, I would have to leave easily an hour earlier and as bad as it sounds - I really do need that extra hour of sleep.

If I am going to get another mod of transport it wouldn't be a scooter - I'd get a Suzuki or Yamaha...I'd get a BMW motorcycle if I could afford it...
