If you've already mailed the check, you might not want to cancel it. DMV might view it as non-payment and hit you with a surcharge similar to a bounced check. Just keep your cancelled check as proof of overpayment and wait until they mail you the refund. Call DMV if you really need to know how to best handle your situation.

If you have received a Vehicle Registration Renewal Notice WITHOUT the VLF reduction, and you have not yet paid your renewal fees, you may use the online calculator to determine your revised Vehicle Registration Renewal fees. You may then mail in the amended (lowered) fee.
