Good place to get away for the weekend?
I know this might be more of an OT topic, but I figure I want to do something local, BA is a better forum for this.
Planning a short trip this weekend. Any suggestion? My gf and I along with 4 other people want to go somewhere. I looked into Yosemite for 'camping'. None of us have any camping equipment, so we'll just stay in a motel or cabine in the park. Is there anything else to do near by? As in we don't have to fly or drive over 6 hours to get to?
Don't have whole lot of time, so it's kind of wack... Planning to leave Saturday Morning and return Sunday night or late afternoon

Bass Lake. You could rent a Chalet at The Pines Resort relatively cheap and it is a 15 minute drive from the park (South Gate). You could rent a ski boat, or some jet ski's.

How do I know, I grew up there! I was in the Valley last week. Still pretty quiet. Go early, because come summer time, it is a mess. Mariposa Grove gate is shut, and it is a 2 mile hike back in there, but there is nobody there so it was nice. Kind of sad though because 2 of the Giant Sequias fell over the winter.

I just went to the north coast last weekend... it was pretty kick ***. If you have never been up towards mendocino, fort bragg, and the surrounding areas, it might be worth a visit. Anywhere up along HWY 1 is nice.

Should be a beautiful weekend up here. If you do decide to come up make a reservation tomorrow rather than today because the reservation server is down all day today.

I'll second both Big Sur and Mendocino/North Coast. My grandparents live in Mendo and I was just up there recently. Absolutely beautiful. Big Sur is also an amazing place. Have fun!

Leo,
Monterey is a beautiful place to go for the weekend, especially with the aquarium and whale watching season happening. There are some lovely victorian style B&B's (bed and breakfast hotels) that I recommend. Definitely a cool and relaxing weekend getaway.

How much are we looking to spend? Monterey is always nice, Carmel, Big Sur.
