NO BLACKBERRY CURVE! My dad and brother have one and it's nowhere near as functional as the Tilt. Typing is a hell of a lot easier with the keyboard on the Tilt and the touchscreen makes everything that much easier.

Also, contrary to what some have said, stay away from the pantec for now, its been getting bad reviews due to hardware problems its a neat looking phone, but its slow, uses a older chipset, and has driver issues.
I would say, judgeing by all you have said you want, the HTC/ATT tilt is the phone for you. While is has its own set of problems, it is by far one of the most expandable phones out...
BTW if you get a tilt, I will trade you some work, you detail my forester and I will do upgrades and hacks on your phone for you

Actually when I first started searching, I had Tilt and Pantech in mind, but seems like they didn't get as good of a rating on the AT&T website. So I was looking at the Q and the BlackJack II. Then folks here mentioned BlackBerry Curve and I saw a great deal at Cosco but no 3G so I was looking/waiting for the BB Bold. Then there is the iPhone. It's actually the last one on my list.
My contract isn't up yet so I have time to search around. So far I don't like the Q and Pantech much. BlackJack II, BB Bold, and Tilt are still on my list with iPhone last. The only thing I like about iPhone is the size of the screen and BB Bold, I just have to wait and see. But since it's not Windows CE based, I am more inclined to go with BlackJack II or the Tilt.
Yeah, I would need to be able to 'write' as well...

Overbear knows what he's talking about Leo. I've never been sold on Blackberrys, had Ipaqs and previous HTC models instead. What I've seen comparing my Tilt to Blackberry's at work, is that they are not as easy to work with, and don't have the level of functionality that the Tilt offers. The point is that the Tilt will accomplish all that you stated prior, and do it better than aything else in comparison.
It sounds to me as if you're sold on a Blackberry or iphone.
The analogy I would choose here is to liken the iphone/B.berry to a 3 series and the Tilt to the STI. We both know which one you picked, so simply go with the rest of it.

Good to know Brian, thanks!
Ah... See, I didn't know about the fees... Thanks! So what is your take on BlackJack II vs the Tilt? Would you be able to do an 'early upgrade' for me? I am eligible for upgrade in a little less than a month. Phone for detail sounds like an attractive deal. LMK what you have in mind!

Unless you are willing to pay for the blackberry email service, and the links to your exchange system, and all the monthy fee's that go along with it, stay away from blackberry. They run non standard software/firmware and tend to be more of a "gimic" and less of a real phone/PDA system.

1)Disable and redirect the PTT button
2)Reghack to disable some of the background programs
3)Flash the bios with a aftermarket one to upgrade the camera drivers
4)Hack the GPS in the reg to increase its lock speed
there is about 20 other reg hacks I do to make them faster. I think I can unlock both the bios and sim for you too, I have to see if my reghack works on the new bios (I don't run the HTC/ATT bios I run a totaly aftermarket one)
Also, if you give it about 4-5 months, the beta of WM7 will be out and you can have ALL the features of apples Icrap without the apple logo on your HTC

blackberrys are only useful for push e-mail. pda phones with windows are great. I got the tilt because it was a great price on black Friday weekend. $419 is not worth it for the tilt. the blackjack 2 is only $79 after rebate and the only real thing to consider on the tilt is the touch screen, wifi, and keypad.Don't get me wrong it is a great phone, but after a while, you may get tired of carrying a pretty bulky phone. As for getting you phone unlock you can go to mobile kangaroo.
WOW thats expensive, thats the price of a new contract. I remember when I did a upgrade, I got a refurb Tilt for 149.99 straight from cingular.com or att.com within 3 days. Then I did another upgrade (4 lines in my account) for a new tilt for 199.99. I guess my sisters BOA account helped me out a lot. Try to see if you have any relatives or friends that would help you with getting discounts.
