My suggestion would be to wait until both the new iPhone and Blackberry 8900 come out (as neither of their current products support 3G) and then compare the two.

uhhhhhhhhhh
it doesn't matter... and my itunes runs great on my pc, and microsoft office runs great on my girlfriends apple.

apple just didn't design the iphone to be a business phone, they designed it to be a cool "anyone" phone.

I would wait on iphone. "Support" for Word and Excel does NOT mean you can edit documents. It may just mean you can view the documents. No one knows for sure until the new iphone software is released.

Smartphone data plans are cheaper than PDA phone plans. Smartphone 3g plans are $20/month compared to ~$35/month for the pda phones. AT&T considers any phone with a keyboard to be a full pda phone, even if they dont have a touchscreen ie Blackjack / Moto Q, which is ghetto. Hint, go to Chinatown to get the cheaper data rates

There are also tricks to get free tethering, at least on the windows mobile phones.

I work for att and honestly we hardly ever sell the Q9 at our store. I currently carry the tilt and it is a great phone. its very similar to the blackjack 2 but the blackjack doesn't have wifi or a 3 megapixel camera. if you're mostly interested in just browsing the internet, get the 3g iphone on july 11. the iphone uses html and with other phones it is a mobile version. the data plans are $30 with pdas smart phones and 3g iphones. regular phones at att are 15 a month. if you go to me after you get your rebate I can make either phone you choose $15 . if its an iphone I can do it but youl have to get it unlocked

ooooo.... I am so going to remember this!

Surfing the web is not a big deal for me. I just need to access email, calendar, contact info (all the Outlook goodies), excel, and word for my detail business. I am going to wait until the new iPhone and BlackBerry come out before I make a decision... Then I'll come to you after I get the phone.

So how do you go about getting the phones unlocked? I thought all the iPhones were only able to be used on the AT&T network currently (even though I seem to switch between AT&T & T-Mobile on my phone once in a while.

go for the at&t tilt. or also known as htc tilt/kaiser. it has a butt load of features and its pretty solid. slide out keyboard and tilt screen. windows mobile. only downside is the windows mobile can be a bit laggy (visual wise).
touch screen too. you can also download mods/programs to customize it even more.

+11ty million for the Tilt. Just get one Leo, you'll be stoked! FWIW, Syncing windows devices with a windows PC is so much better than any conduit. I'm still rocking my 8125 (the predecessor to the Tilt) and am just waiting for it to take a dump so I can upgrade to a Tilt.

1)I make my living in IT, and live day to day with a pda phone, so take my advice with that in mind

DO NOT get a Iphone, even the new one comming out is still a V1.X model, and they have far too many issues both hardware and software. If you are truely sold on one, wait a year tell the new version proves itself stable.

As to good phones, there are 2

1)Need touch screen? The tilt (8925) is the best out right now. Windows Mobile 6.1, fast, outlook and TRUE push (Iphone 2.0 will NOT be 'TRUE' push) GPS (TRUE GPS not that crap they put in the iphone), FULL KEYBOARD, gps fastsync, and a host of other features.

2)Don't need touch screen, look to the Q or the Blackjack 2, both run WM6.1 for smartphones, both are powerful platforms with true keyboards. Differences are minimal betwene them.

1)because MS office on the mac is NOT a true full version, you can not do outlook/exhcange features or push mail.

2)Itunes sucks, your lockd into a DRM, even microsoft knows DRM is bad.

Overbear knows what he's talking about Leo. I've never been sold on Blackberrys, had Ipaqs and previous HTC models instead. What I've seen comparing my Tilt to Blackberry's at work, is that they are not as easy to work with, and don't have the level of functionality that the Tilt offers. The point is that the Tilt will accomplish all that you stated prior, and do it better than aything else in comparison.

It sounds to me as if you're sold on a Blackberry or iphone.

The analogy I would choose here is to liken the iphone/B.berry to a 3 series and the Tilt to the STI. We both know which one you picked, so simply go with the rest of it.

Good to have
- word (read/write)
- wifi
- big screen

I am also new to data plan... is it true that smartphone data plan is cheaper than pda data plan? would a smartphone have all the capabilities I listed above?

I am currently looking at blackjack II and motorola Q... Not familiar with the iPhone...

I would suggest the Pantech Duo. I have one and like it a lot. Except, you can only read in MS Excel and Word.
