good pda phone for AT&T?
My contract will be up soon and I'll be able to upgrade my phone at a discounted price...
I'll need the following...
- outlook (read/send email and access to full calendar)
- excel (read/write)
- 3g
Good to have
- word (read/write)
- wifi
- big screen
I am also new to data plan... is it true that smartphone data plan is cheaper than pda data plan? would a smartphone have all the capabilities I listed above?
I am currently looking at blackjack II and motorola Q... Not familiar with the iPhone...

I would go for an iPhone. I have the 1st gen and love it, but it sounds like the second 2nd gen will cover everything you like. Easy phone to use and great utility.

Best email on a mobile device.
Email on iPhone offers a viewing experience unlike any other mobile device. Its rich HTML format means email looks and acts like email on your computer. With support for Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, PDF, JPEG, and now iWork, attachments can be viewed exactly as they were designed to. Users can even zoom in on important information with the tap of a finger. And now that iPhone has built-in support for Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync, users get all the benefits of push email.
But I wonder if it's view only...

Once I read the first post, I knew people were going to say iphone.
IMHO, the iphone is really overrated. there is a laundry list of things I hated about mine. Thats why I went back to my free nokia 6085. but this involves a different thread. all im saying is look at other models that offer the same attributes.
Consider these options:
nokia N95
blackberry pearl or curve
att tilt
my cousin and cousin in law really like the tilt. i might be getting a curve soon.

my Q9H is pretty good....exchange email, 3g and gps......i like the keyboard, IMHO better than the iphone touch screen and blackberrys.....
iphone looks nice but limited to biz users....maybe the 2.0 software could change that....

I will be picking up an iphone come July when the new 3g version comes out.
8gb iphone is gonna be $199! and 16gb for $299. Can't beat that.. especially considering the prices of iphones today and the fact that they don't support 3g or agps.. which brings me to another benefit.. if you have to drive around and want a more accurate GPS.. the new iphone's AGPS tracks you by satellite and by the cell phone towers.
Other than that the blackberry curve is a good solution although I am not sure if it supports wifi.
AT&T tilt is a good choice too. Everybody from my IT dept use it.
Features:
- Microsoft DirectPush (Outlook, email, calendar, task, etc. real time synchronize)
- Microsoft Office Mobile 6 (Word, Excel, etc)
- Adobe PDF reader
- Built-in GPS module, I'm using TomTom works better than the navi in my car.
- I got a program that was supposed to ship with HTC Kaiser (European Model) that can scan Business card and save as contact for outlook. (similar to OCR technology)
- Watch Youtube (3rd party plug in)
- Remote Desktop I use it alot to assist our employees when I'm not in the office.
There are so many other features...
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index...ame=HTC_Kaiser
check under HTC Kaiser - Same as AT&T Tilt (except HTC Kaiser has additional camera on the front)
it supports Edge/3G/HSDPA (available in most areas, it's faster than 3G data)
let me know if you have any other question

Hey Leo, I use the Tilt for work. I love it. Does everything I need for work, with a physical keyboard and PDF-viewing, etc. If you want full-browser capabilities you can download Opera. Also, pm me if you have space this Saturday morning; earlier is better.
No offense, but why would you buy an Apple product and expect it to work well with Microsoft products? I would recommend the Blackberry 8900 when it comes out. Of course, I have a Blackberry and love it... so I am a bit biased. I know lots of people who love their iPhones as well.
My suggestion would be to wait until both the new iPhone and Blackberry 8900 come out (as neither of their current products support 3G) and then compare the two.

yo man! Sorry, Speed Element and I are having a Detail Day this Saturday so can't do it...
Sorry... Dude you should let me play with your tilt next time!
So Blackberry does everything I listed above? I don't mind waiting since I do have a pocket PC right now. It's just a pain to carry two devices all the time. I thought blackberry has it's own OS instead of Window CE, no?
I just need one.
