2000 legacy wagon 170k on the odo
Headgasket/timing belt etc changed recently
Besides the general wear and tear items, anything else to specifically to this year legacy to look at? Suspension, interior/ext, electricals?
Any advice appreciated

^^ What he said. Take along a bright LED flashlight and look around a lot on the engine itself. You can see the white telltale dried coolant marks easier sometimes.
Also, I have no idea if this is true or not, but my pops was looking for one for a while, and he said there was a common issue with either the center or front differential in the automatic cars. He heard this from his mechanic friend, but again - no idea if it's true or not.

Your 2.5L should be MAP based, so you can pretty much fit 00-01 RS intakes (or CA 99 models). Not much gains from that obviously though.
If you want some noise, any 93-07 axleback should fit. Flange might need to be rotated and/or extended, but then again I'm not an expert on Legacys.
You can use 2.5RS Borla/Borla Rep headers too for that boxer sound.
