CHP emission check point.
Sorry to cross post, but trying to get the word out.
11/6 at 10:45 am on Woodside Rd. in Redwood City.
A CHP officer is picking cars to get checked on a lift with a sniffer.
Never saw this before, but there it was.

Not from Cali but it would seem to me if you know when your going to be inspected you can make sure it'll pass. Roadside not so much. If you deny it would raise a reg flag to them so to speak. Just my .02

just let them know if they pull you in, that you are actually on a time crunch and maybe next time around thanks. if they said you have to.. then you let them know the facts. that it's completely voluntary and ask if you can leave now.. just keep your exterior legal as possible or they will just cite you with a fix it ticket haha.

The system is supposed to be voluntary with no recourse to you if you fail the smog test. However, when they have you stopped, they get to look under your hood, and it doesn't take much imagination to guess what the attending CHP will do next if you have mods.
Personally, I think its a pretty crappy way of monitoring the smog system. If it counted as a smog check for DMV, at least that would be something, but it doesn't.
