That's Sportsmans Supply - have bought 3 guns from them and have always been happy.
Personally I've never liked H&K's, the mag release bugs me. Never felt good in my hands.
I own Springfield XD and love it. Glockish function but better refined and has the 1911 grip angle.

This will be my first gun and it will be for defense/because I can. I also plan on buying a shotgun but the pistol is higher on my priority list.

Every gun will have a bad batch at one point, Glock has the least and there's a reason that its the most reliable and rugged auto pistol on earth. There's a reason every gun maker copies Glock.
I used to hate Glocks until every other pistol would fail me, Glock would always come to the rescue and with all 5 of my glocks, never had a single problem with any of them, and I clean them every 5,000 rounds or more. Thats how great they are.
They also have great customer service and will take care of you above and beyond, unlike lame *** HK who has the WORST customer service ever.

ssteve is the only one who has made sense. The Kimber by far as a 1911 goes, is the one to buy. Nothing bad about Springfield, but the Kimber is the nicest shooting out of the box 1911. Try the CDP, it is jewelry. You just can't go wrong with a Glock. Buy them both.

I second this. I bought a 35 with a busted front sight while ago so I called them up for a replacement part. They sent me a package with the parts I asked for and a whole lot of free **** like a calendar, stickers, patches, pens, a keychain and a lanyard. I paid nothing.

HK is not only over priced, but they treat you like crap and wont help you worth a damn. This isn't just me, it's common knowledge.

Good info 'cause I'm in a similar boat. I'll most likely be picking up my first handgun early next year and am trying to make a similar decision. I'd like to get something that has relatively inexpensive ammo and will be easy enough for the wifey to shoot. Thoughts?

22 caliber...
Easy to shoot. Cheap ammo...
One way is to buy like a sig sauer semi auto like a P226 in 9mm. Then buy the .22LR conversion kit for it.
Practice with the cheap stuff. Home defense or competition shooting with the 9mm
after a while you can then step up to the .40 or .45
family of sig sauer P classic series line...

Good suggestions Leo. Yeah, a SIG .22 is what we shot when we were at the relatives in Ohio. Easy to shoot, accurate, cheap ammo and the wifey liked it. Good call. Anyone else want to chime in?

First gun? Get a Glock. There's no other pistol with the same level of user friendliness, reliability and ease of customization as a Glock.
BTW, the Sigs of today are not nearly as good (quality and reliability) as the ones made in the past. Just something to consider.
