I forget the cut off, but somewhere within 6000k range you start loosing light in favor of color. As far as I am aware, 8000k might look cooler, but the light projection range will be reduced. If you have never seen cars with those ridiculous purple 10,000k or 12,000k HID kits, they cannot see anything but road right in front of them...and you also need actual HID projectors to make proper use of HID bulbs that come in all kits because stock halogen projectors are not meant to reflect or deal with that type of light and bulb. So just be aware of those things when deciding on your purchase. Just my $.02. Good luck!
I think i will get a slight increase in the brightness compared to stock but mostly looking for that blue. I dont believe with 8000k that im sacrificing sight, and thats the biggest issue
Plus if all else fails, i could run fogs at the same time (workin on a custom switch for it) if i cant see

Ive noticed a couple cars on the road with blue so i ask them what temp they are running and they're mostly around 7000k-8000k and they shined pretty nicely. i dont think ive seen any 10000k or 12000k's on the road to compare.

Replacing front windshield with ppg tomorrow. I had cracked front windshield for 4 yrs. It got way too large to deal with anymore.
Front spt oem underspoiler lip and painted side skirts are on the way.
Rear underspoiler is no longer availuable until March from subaru. Do APR carbon fiber rear diffuser fit bugeye wrx sedan? Where can I get a good deal. Anyone?

just a quote i found that really helps
Ok, first off, lets start with the bulbs. The common mistake some people here is that all these high kelvin rated bulbs are the shizzle. Well, they couldn't be more wrong. The higher you go in kelvin, the less light and lumens you'll have. Practically anything over 6k is really a waste if your at all concerned with your safety and brightness of lighting. So what is the best bulb out there then you ask? 4100-4300k. It has the most lumens out of all the HID bulbs produced. Thats why car manufactures still use them today. 4100k would be right where the "sweet spot" is. It produces near to the suns same kelvin thus giving you daylight-like output. Think of it like this, high kelvin bulbs would be like being out in the sun with sunglasses on vs a 4100k being in the sun w/o glasses on.
The blue look you are looking for that cars like bmw have doesn't come from the color of the bulb itself but from the projector. I have a 5000k kit in my 04-05 and driving in hard rain or even a slight drissle is scary. I had to concentrate extra hard to just see where the road was. 5000k i think is perfect. 6000k is a little too blue but 5000k is just right. Oh and if you are talking about OEM fogs helping they don't light up the road that much. just a little more on the side and right in front of you. I would read up a little more before you make the purchase. What year do you have? If you got a bug eye i would definitely try and get some projectors before the hid's.
