I need suggestions for a "mixed drink" that contains a good amount of alcohol, and less "non-alcoholic sweet stuff". Reason being, is that because I'm older I'm in social situations where we are not "partying", but are drinking. I need to find a drink that I can order ONE of so I don't look like a lush, but isn't weak. As a bonus, I don't need extra sugar water so less syrup the better.

So far, the best choices seem to be:
- martini (but in some cases this is socially weird)
- long island ice tea
- audios mother ****er

There is a famous cocktail in tahoe called the wet woody.. recipe is on this site but im not sure about the proportions... but it tastes good and 1-2 of those will be good to get a nice buzz depending on your tolerance.

any hard liquor mixed with soda will hit you harder than average sugary mixed drinks. Try a scotch and soda or gin and tonic or any variation on that theme. My favorite is currently a double Talisker Storm with a splash of soda.

If you like a stronger flavor, many bourbons are higher than 40% alcohol content and go great with an ice cube or soda.

Order a scotch or bourbon. That fulfills your req's and you really only need to order one or two with the right stuff.

Another plus is no one looks at you sideways either with 'only' having 1 or 2.
