Mistakes can and do happen, but it's rare. The station owner/operator places an order for gasoline and the tanker arrives with the load of fuel(s). The tanker driver is the one who hooks up the hoses and dispenses the fuel into the tanks. The hoses and nozzles are the same mechanically, if I recall correctly, so they could theoretically be hooked up wrong by the tanker driver. They don't always arrive when the station owner/operator is present so if the gasoline grade was switched, it was probably accidental and the fault of the driver.

I worked at a gas station many years ago and we never received one question or complaint about grade switching - I don't think it ever happened during the time I worked there. The driver fills out a bunch of paperwork concerning the fuel order before he leaves (number of gallons for each grade dispensed).

I'm referring to how things work at a major oil company gas station (Shell, Chevron, Union 76, etc.). I don't know how they do things at those little convenience store gas stations.

the best thing to do is go to a trusted gas station.

On a different forum, a guy that transports gas says there is no differance on some companies because they use the same lines so they mix. The thing you should look for is clean lines. If the pump pumps it out fast and smooth, it's cleaner than the slow and clunky pumps.

The raising prices doesnt have to do with Iraq. Its O.P.E.C. being stupid again. Everytime they think the oil might be subject to terrorist attacks they raise the price so they make out with profits and not worry about a lose.
