Question Gas gauge tweaking out?

so....

Today I filled up the gas tank, 100% full. Drive off and within 2 miles, my gas need just DROPS all the way to E and my gas light (that norm comes on when you're low) comes and and just starts blinking.

This happened to me ONCE before, over a month ago. Same situation, filled up and within a couple miles the needle drops and light starts flashing. I turned the car off and then back on and the needle went back up to F and that was that.

So today I did the same thing. I was at a stop light so i turned the car off and then back on. Again, needle goes back to F and light stops blinking. So I figure fine ok, weird but ok. So about 10 mins later, it did it AGAIN! This time I was about 3 or 4 blocks from home so I figured I would just park it but this time even before having to turn the car off, the light stops and the needle returns to F.

Different gas stations both times.

Any ideas?

Happened to me on my Sti before. I just disconnected the main battery for a few to clear any memory and reconnect. Fixed it for me.

Fuel tank level sensor is probably going bad. Or your car doesn't want to be driven. I would lean towards the first option if I was you.

Im guessing thats what it is as well. Any way of testing it besides buying/installing a new one and hoping the problem doesnt continue?
