gauge cluster lighting tweaking badley

I have a 06 wrx. Installed autometer boost gauge 3 months ago and I spliced it (power and neg) into the stock gauge cluster. It worked for a while but ever since a month ago it has been very bad. My gauge cluster would dimm alot until it blacked out many many times. I undid everything and crimped 18g wires to the dimmer and neg. I made sure there was 1/2 to 1/4 of wire that were crimped though the wire connecter i bought at lowes. It still does not light up fully for a while. It usually works only until about 35 then 35+ mph it usualy dimms and black out. Any solution to this? I really can't bring it back to dealer ship because they will know that i played with the stock wireing and say its my fault charging me out of my ***. I'm really getting tired of this, I need help REAL bad... Please help me.

Another example,
I went on a 200+ mile trip to ocean beach from sacto and back to sacto just now. Usually when I hit a bump on the road, the lights would turn back on but only for 5-10 secs until it dimms out. There is a current going from wire to wire but I think the harness is loose from me pulling it too much.

Do you guys think my wires are fried? If it is fried, how would i fix it if i can't reach after the wire reaches behind the vent?

yeah, definitely a loose connection. your wires aren't fried, unfortunately, you'll have to pull everything out and check each one and maybe even replace some of the harnesses.

Gosh dammit!!! Cant i just cut the dimming wire so that i dont have to worry about the dimmers again and leave the light on as soon as i turn on the car? I really hate this.. Will me cutting the dimmer just turn off the whole interior dash lights?

Horray!! I fixed it today! Ghetto though...

Symptoms:
1) Driving on freeway or bumpy road and suddenly your dash and radio dimms or the lights turn off.
2) Close your door from the inside with the car on but dont slam, make sure you thump the door, if the dash flicker, theres a problem.
3) Unbolt the dash but leave the harness on, tap the dash and see if the lights are dimming or blacking out.

To narrow it all down, there is a fuse box under the dash. Theres like a billion wires there. With the car on, move some wires... if the dash flickers and turns off, theres your problem.

The untouched (hopefully) stock wires are loose. Just use some strong tape and push it upward or to where it won't dimm your lights. Make sure you have a good grip with the tape. I used electric tape.

If that didn't solve the problem, lightly tap the cluster.. if it dimms, get a new cluster.
