The ethanol cleans out your combustion chambers, valves, etc. Every fill up makes it cleaner and cleaner over time.
I guess you could also run a gallon or two of E85 every once in a while.

you can do it like the old schoolers with 2 gallon of water through a vacuum hose to get the job done too. although i wouldnt recommend doing it on a turbocharged car :P

adding **** in your fuel isnt doing anything unless you're doing it every fillup and it dilutes the fuel nicely. its all a waste of money just like those octane boosters that boost your octane by .000001 realistically.

Since CA banned MTBE, to oxygenate gas companies use 10% ethanol. Some companies never used MTBE, like 76, and always has used E10 formula... and it was a wonder why they tuned less knock than other gasolines back in the day... makes total sense today.

Run 1/3 through your brake booster or intercooler and smoke the whole neighborhood out Careful though, when I did mine I guess I didn't let it run long enough to clear everything out. Come next morning I blew out another huge cloud of white smoke and got a CEL for running rich. Cleared it and no problems in the 5k miles since, just something to be aware of.

+1. Not something I'd be comfortable doing on my car.

A gallon or two shouldn't be a problem.

The idea behind running the E85 is using the alcohol to clean out the system.

Just don't put it in your oil! I had a customer once who decided to put that stuff directly in his oil supply and didn't drain it like the instructions call for. Needless to say, catastrophe ensued!

No idea. I don't see it being catastrophic to do so, but being on the safe side I'd only do it every once in while.
