Frickin' SCCA and their rules

Actually I love the SCCA. I'm just ranting because I'm having trouble classing my Miata. I bought the Miata planning to run in STS2. But since my car is an M-Edition, I'm excluded from STS2. So, I can run in ES (which I don't want to) or CSP. But, i don't want to run in CSP.
/end whinning

So, I'm gonna run my WRX instead and save the Miata for track days. My WRX has catless DP, catback, and a custom tune. I also have crucial springs but am not opposed to changing my suspension. What class can I run in based on my engine mods and what suspension mods am I allowed?

Sorry for the broad question.

aww man! dont slap your miata in the face like that! HAHA it wants to autoX i know it
dont worry about classes, its your time that will be compared to everyone else. Unless your going for a series win or trophy, but otherwise i wouldnt even care about the class.

so ES is less competitive and CSP is more right? just do ES

but it would be a good excuse to let your subaru have some fun. do both i say

and you bubbling it Friday night?

well, I dont plan on doing any track days with my WRX, only with the Miata. So, I figure it might be good for the WRX to get a work out through auto-x. Some of the mods I need to run the miata at the track, specifically my seat, are not allowed in ES. We'll see what happens.

and yes, i'll be at Bubbles tomorrow night, LOL

With that setup, you are eligible for ESP or Street Mod.

ESP you could upgrade to coilovers, do swaybars. Other suspension mods are probably not allowed, but I don't know the list off the top of my head. You can also upgrade brake lines and brake pads, but not calipers or rotors.

If you go to street mod, you can pretty much do everything short of making a dedicated race car. There are lots of restrictions, but I wouldn't worry about it unless you are serious.

Thumbs up

Run your Miata in ES. If that doesn't work out, run the WRX with us in STX.

You'll need a catted downpipe for STX. That maybe easier to get too.

Just swap your Torsen diff for someone's viscous diff. Guys in CSP will line up for it.

<-had an M-Edition Miata and went through the exact same thing.

Well, there reason it might become a hassle is that I was told by some people on the bay area autox forums that I'd basically have to make my car a "base" model. This includes all other things that were not offered as an option outside the M-Edition.

The car needs some parts replaced, so I want to upgrade to aftermarket stuff. So, that puts me out of ES. I'll probably end running the WRX, which is ok with me.

Not true. In ST you can change your differentials. It's not the "M-Edition" that's not legal, it's the diff. If someone's bothered by you having the heaviest Miata in teh class with a legal diff... well, that's why I never ran SFR events.

Right, because running againt sprint cars with motorcycle motors would be awesome

The rules state that if you have a package and you want to convert it to be legal in some class, you must remove ALL of that package.

The rules might hurt you, but the rules affect everyone.

I know. I'm just whining. The rules are there to make the field as even as possible. I'll still participate and have fun.
