freaked out by CA modding laws.

Yes, municipalities can have stricter laws than the state, but no municipality can have LESS strict laws than the state mandate.... just like states can have laws that are tighter than federal mandates, but not less strict... again, if you honestly think that street racing not a problem anymore, shall I show you the utility of the search button and show you the news post that recently showed up on this board, about the 2005 WRX that hit a girl on the sidewalk after losing control in a street race with a 350Z (the 350 didn't stop). Oh yeah.. street racing is NO LONGER A PROBLEM ...
Tell you what... show me ONE municipality where some form of street racing goes on (that has a population greater than 25,000 people) in California, where there is no direct correlation with the penalties for modifications.

sorry...that doesnt mean my opinions are voided.
ehhh maybe you dont get harassed because you drive on the right highways and times? I get off work late, in a sheriff saturated zone = bad news for me.
i know for one i am tired of being harassed by cops for having legal exhaust with legal decibal level...
even my friend shirostee gets harassed for driving a sti with stock exhaust...
that may be fine for you, but im tired of this especially when chp posts on their website that certain mods are legal... but the cops on the road always saying no, "any mod at all is illegal" , i guess they dont read thier own website now?? cops are ppl too and their too lazy to check if things are actually legal so they generalize everything, and sign the ticket ne ways, because they can get away with it.
and for your municipality challenge... okay i think i can do that.
i was in milpitas dropping a friend off. I get pulled over, I did nothing wrong.
they tell to rev my engine so they can check my DB level by ear. The more experienced officer training the guy said, okay thats fine it passes. they both go back to thier car. a little later one of them comes back and states, any modded exhaust AT ALL PERIOD is illegal in MILPITAS, so he then writes me a fix it ticket (on top of that he makes it non fixable?!). ON chp website they show that modifying ONLY your exhaust with all cats and legal DB limit level is LEGAL.
cookie?

p.s. I simply said that large scale runs are not as big as they used to be. Mainly because the police started to trap in large amounts of cars. I think that works, and thats fine by me. But when police start to generalize a persons "race" etc with "street racing" (and then harassing those ppl) i think thats simply wrong. In fact I think its great that you pointed out that the street racing wrx-- the driver was a middle aged white man. It shows street racers can be any nationality, age, etc. Not just young , and asian? Tell that to some of the cops.

Oh my.. you went there.. okay, school is in session. This is how you form a coherent argument:
No.. you are absolutely correct. Your opinion is just that.. your opinion... just like my opinion is mine. However, what it does show is that your opinion is most likely a reactionary, ill-formed, ill-concieved, and thus, to me at least, ignorant one. My opinion is formed after a critical study of relevent facts. Additionally, in my other life as an Army Reservist, I serve with many types of cops. How many cops do you know personally, that you can make an all-encompassing statement like "traffic cops will never get my respect." So basically, what you are saying is that all traffic cops, regardless of who they are, will never get your respect. So, if someone you are related to or knows becomes a traffic cop, you suddenly lose all respect for him/her? That's ignorance.
ehhh maybe you dont get harassed because you drive on the right highways and times? I get off work late, in a sheriff saturated zone = bad news for me.
Don't assume. I drive on all highways at all times of the day or night. What I DON'T do is draw attention to myself when there is a heavy police presence. I also don't do anything stupid while cops are around. Do I speed? Of course, but I speed prudently and sanely. It's the same way when I ride my bike, a 2004CBR600RR. I drive regularly on 101 and 280, both highways heavily policed by CHP. Oh, hey.. look... STILL no tickets since I had my WRX in California from 2002.
i know for one i am tired of being harassed by cops for having legal exhaust with legal decibal level...
even my friend shirostee gets harassed for driving a sti with stock exhaust...

okay, according to http://www.chp.ca.gov/html/streetlegal.html ,
"Note: New law (27150.2 VC) does not require law enforcement to use sound level meters to test for excessive noise. Citation is based on officer's judgment. Cited violators may have testing done at smog referee stations or may be directed by the court to have testing done. Vehicles in violation must be brought into compliance. A fine may also be imposed."
So.. if it is the officer's opinion that your exhaust is too loud, ticket time.
As far as legal exhaust is concerned, if it says it's legal in California, it's for SMOG, not SOUND. You can STILL be pulled over for the sound, even with a "legal" exhaust.
Your friend is getting pulled over for a stock exhaust? uhmm... chances are, he's doing something else to attract the attention, and they are just looking at the STis stock exhaust as an added bonus. And yet.. I have several friends with STis that never get pulled, with stock exhaust... So it's not just the exhaust...

great, show me the research and the relevent municipal laws.
i was in milpitas dropping a friend off. I get pulled over, I did nothing wrong.
You did nothing wrong? No, you did something to draw attention to yourself. The police (any type) can't pull you over without some probable cause or observed infraction (that specifically allows them to pull you over, as opposed to additional infractions they can cite you with, but can't pull you over for). More details (who, what, when, where, why). Who pulled you over? What were you doing? When (what time of night, what time of month, etc.) Where was it (freeway, city street, corner, long straightaway, etc.) Why were you pulled over, according to the officer conducting the traffic stop. By law, they have to tell you.
yes, that's the current requirement.
The more experienced officer training the guy said, okay thats fine it passes. they both go back to thier car. a little later one of them
WHICH one? The more experienced one or the trainee? You not being specific gives the impression of weakness in the anecdote.
comes back and states, any modded exhaust AT ALL PERIOD is illegal in MILPITAS,
yes, as I said before, any municipality can make STRICTER laws than what is on the state CVC, they just can't make it less strict. So, if in MILPITAS, it's illegal, guess what? You deserve that ticket.
so he then writes me a fix it ticket (on top of that he makes it non fixable?!).
So, which is it? fixable offense or non? be specific.
ON chp website they show that modifying ONLY your exhaust with all cats and legal DB limit level is LEGAL.
So, that only applies to the CALIFORNIA CVC, not any local municipal CVCs... and again, this is irrelevent if it wasn't the CHP issuing the ticket.
You aren't posting a lot here, just an anecdote.
no, you don't deserve one yet... You need to show more effort before you get a cookie.
p.s. I simply said that large scale runs are not as big as they used to be.

wow... make enough assumptions there?

I made no distinction. I simply stated that street racing is still around, and is still a problem... This one recent incident lends credance to my opinion... not yours.
so.. shall we continue this discussion?

We're just lucky we don't have nasty mod-restrictions like in some other states... I think Virginia and a few others require safety inspections and they will nail you for changing the vehicle height, steering components, etc... think it was meant to stop trucks from being lifted to absurd heights, but also affects low-riders and ricers.

so lower riders and ricers are the only ones that change vehicle height? Wow....am I ever out of the loop.

k... first off i love this quote of yours "wow... make enough assumptions there?"
let me elaborate:
first off you say i jump the gun when i say "traffic cops wont get any respect from me"... ok thats very general, i admit that.
But your doing the exact same thing when you PSYchicly predict with your MS CLEO POWERS that me and my friend are doing stuff to attract attention.
BOTH our cars looks basically stock, probably more stock than your car.
In fact usually we drive 65-70 mph (were cheap asses that like to save gas)
in fact when my friends sti was getting followed... we were doing 65. lol, so does that answer your question? not the picture you thought it was, is it?
And no i wasnt doing anything wrong in milpitas, just dropping off a date.
But then again you assume i was, "attracting attention to myself", yeah okay!
first off I didnt even know the way to her house that well yet, so i was going pertty damn slow so i didnt miss her directions. dot dot dot.
Okay, like i said you get mad that i generalize cops. Look at what your doing. Your so biased you generalize what i say to try to make it easier for your own argument. And hey, there's nothing wrong with that, fact is EVERybody is biased. I was biased too in my case against the police... at least i can admit it?
anyways... i respect the position of a police officer of course, but that doesnt mean every cop is so great and innocent.
p.s. im very sure i said the cop gave me a non fixable fix it ticket?...

I have also seen cars crawl over RR tracks because they couldn't clear it, I've had to backup out of a busy car wash - i.e. there were at least 5 cars waiting - to let someone out because they couldn't get over the rails in the wash.
Otherwise I agree with you - if it passes smog, they shouldn't say much of anything

I would go for that when they start controlling the freaking 4 wheel drives that are 8 inches lifted. Or those are legal/excempt?

It seems that every SUV either is 6 inches lifted or has 22's with spinners.

Im very sure never to drive in milpitas at late hours... especially on a fri/sat night.
And about the raised trucks ... im very sure thier quite legal... my ex boss who was a East palo alto cop was a small shrimpy 5'4 dood, that had his truck raised so damn high, that it was almost comedy to see him get out and in his truck.

Oh yeah... i heard later he rolled over a bump/pothole whatever.. and his struts went out.. so not only do they make your truck roll over easier, but their less reliable as well? o..0 I dunno but that seems a LOT more riskier then having suspension that lowers a car? double-standard?

It is legal to lift a truck just like it's legal to lower a car. You just can't go to high. I can't remember the exact number but your headlights can only be so high.
As for..just because he's a cop it's legal...shoot cops to TONS of illegal stuff because they can. I know a cop with a huge small dcik truck as well. It's too high and he knows it. My brother and law is a cop and he drives like a mad man. WAAAAY over the speedlimits, no blinkers..etc. He just says...let em pull me over I'll just tell em I'm a cop.
I thought about going into the force for a while. My grandpa was sheriff. My uncle is a retired detective and works as a cop on lake shasta now. Have a couple uncles and an aunt that are cops..etc.
as for the double standard...hell yes there is a double standard. Raising a truck makes it less safe for those in the truck and those around it. Lifted trucks in accidents are no good. Because they don't hit where other cars safety equipment is of use. The death per accident with lifted trucks or SUV/trucks in general is much higher than those with cars.
Crazy thing is that...done right...upgrading your suspension can make your car safer. My car is WAAAAY more stable with the new suspension than it was stock and it's only lowered by like half and inch.

talk about unsafe. Those HUGE freaking wheels are unsafe as hell. They increase stopping distance to some insane number....something like 300 plus feet from 60mph.
I can't remember where I saw the study now but it was nuts how big a difference they made.
I mean adding 400 pound to an already heavy truck and doing it as rotational mass is just not smart.

My car is WAAAAY more stable with the new suspension than it was stock and it's only lowered by like half and inch.

really does make the car safer.
btw this cop really hated "lowered import" cars, aka subaru's.
he was into all that "all american" image and what not... so towards domestics etc, which he felt he could relate to somewhat, he'd let them slide a lot easier if not complement them. not fair
