freaked out by CA modding laws.

I'm still really shocked by the fact that by law it's illegal to mod your exhaust, suspension, ecu..etc...etc...etc..

In the UK, as long as it passes smog and you tell your insurance it's all good, mod away, but it seems that if you want to keep it legal in california the most you can get away with is a re-flash, a stock, gutted up-pipe and a catback, anything else will fail an inspection (ok, some people think an FMIC is legal...others disagree)....

WTF???????

what else can I get away with????

Well, you can't lower the car beyond a certain point - I think thats what he means.

I agree with you - as long as your can pass smog and safety checks, who cares. But Calif views these laws as ways to make a little money.

If you avoid doing stupid things and don't drive like a nut, the liklihood is that you want gont hassled.

Actually, I agree with the suspension stuff - Your car should be able to get over railroad tracks at the speed limit posted.

I am really fed up with guys having to crawl over speed bumps in a busy parking lot when an event gets out and there are 1000 cars trying to leave and the guy in front of you needs to wait till he has enough room to hit the speed bump at an angle, I mean why should I have to wait for him, it's his car he should wait till everyone leaves.

I have also seen cars crawl over RR tracks because they couldn't clear it, I've had to backup out of a busy car wash - i.e. there were at least 5 cars waiting - to let someone out because they couldn't get over the rails in the wash.

Otherwise I agree with you - if it passes smog, they shouldn't say much of anything

in relation to the suspension part, the CVC just states that the body of the car cannot be lower than the bottom of the wheel.

i used to angle my car over speed bumps after dropping my car. but now, i just let it bottom out. haha. socal's dirty roads chipped up all of the front end of my car anyways, so..i don't see the point of trying to keep the bottom of my front lip scratch free anymore

That is because in California their are a lot of ricers and what not, and since street racing is such a big problem here, they target cars that are modifed to race. If only racing was as big as in Europe or Japan, maybe we wouldn't be hassled so much.
