Found race gas omw to Fresno.

I was running down to Fresno and stopped at a 76 in Los Banos. Im reading the pump.... 87, 88.5, 91, 100.... wait a sec.... 100! **** was 4.29 a gallon. I was tempted but most of it would be wasted on the trip.

My question is without a proper map, what would this do for me (currently have a Vishnu stage one)?

You really won't see much of an improvemnet if you don't have a map to take advantage of it. Your ECU would still run a bit of extra timing, nothing all that worthwhile.

Nah, I go to Fresno twice a month at least. The g/f lives there for the time being.

Hate to say, but I found out a few weeks ago that 76 is indeed discontinuing all Automotive Race gas (i.e. 100 at the pump in selected locations, as well as 100/110/118 in cans) in California and possibly beyond

Most likely, you'll see VP Fuels (new "fuel of NASCAR" starting in 2004) at most tracks.

Slack is on crack...

lol filling up w/ 100 octane makes your car feel like its on crack.
And with exhaust or boost controller you notice it big time.
I've heard of it adding 15-20 WHP
When i use it its great fun.

The gas itself isn't where you get the power. It's from running more timing advance and a leaner mixture that you get the power, and the anti-knock properties of race gas are what allow that. So, without mods to take advantage of it, it doesn't do anything, just like putting 91 in an N/A motor with no mods doesn't really do anything.

hmm you know more then me..

..but I disagree.
The ECU advances the timing untill knock,
the octane (100) of the gas allows it to combust with more force,
the ECU switches modes when it recognizes this.
The turbo loves this as it is designed for higher octane gas anyway.
Ok gurus tear me apart lol.

I have felt the diffrence it makes in a stock WRX.

In very strictly defined terms, yes it does benefit even in stock form. It does advance timing some, but only up to a point, and it takes time. And it's not as big a change as it would be with tuning that intends to take advantage of it. The other problem is, when you go back to 91, you're sure to get knock as the ECU will indeed have made some changes for it. high octane doesn't combust 'with more force' however. It actually burns slower which is part of what prevents knock. It's also less susceptible to detonation as a result of heating and pressurizing the mixture (also known as 'dieseling' since that's the principle that diesels rely on).
