Why do i have a feeling that it's not the FLU they are injecting.....but some bio weapon/testing....

Being that the shot is designed to get you sick, it's not surprising that you ended up getting sick.

That being said though, you should not have gotten nearly that sick, but this is even more reason for me to believe that the flu shots are pretty useless and are actually worse for you than just dealing with your body naturally fighting off the diseases found in your local area.

For me, I honestly cannot recall the last time I was sick to the point that I was laid up in bed. I never get the flu shots and do not see a time coming up any time soon where I am willing going to get one. After working in an office environment and realizing just how nasty people are (going to the bathroom and then walking out without washing their hands), sneezing or coughing all over the place and contaminating the entire office you start realizing that you don't want to be around people or touch most things. I avoid touching door handles to exit bathrooms if I can at all avoid it (i.e. use paper towels, toilet paper, sleeve, whatever that's just not my bare hand to touch the handle). I am probably even a bit OCD when it comes to washing my hands as I will wash them several times a day (which destroys my hands in dry climates as I need to moisturize the back of my hands or else I can end up bleeding from scrubbing so much). I wasn't like this growing up, but working in the office and seeing other people's habits (or overall lack of cleanliness) has made me become even more of a clean freak for some stuff and that is probably what leads to me not being sick very often as I don't think germs get much of chance with me.

Seriously, most people cough in their hands or do whatever then they will touch their face or hair and just contaminate themselves which leads to them eventually getting sick. If you wash your hands and stay clean germs don't tend to mess you up as bad.

*TLDR Cliff notes - Wash hands a lot, don't touch door handles with bare hands, get sick less.

The shot is NOT designed to get you sick exactly, it is dead virus, though people do get sick from it. The live virus is injected into eggs as hosts, extracted and killed and that's what goes in the injection. Your body reacts to it the same way and produces an antivirus. The idea being that if fewer people come down with major symptoms and/or are sick for less time, helping to control the spread of the virus.

100% agree on clean being the first step at keeping yourself from getting this sort of thing. Even when it ISN'T flu season, I don't touch common areas with my hands if I can avoid it and wash if I can't avoid touching something. It works.

The flu shot is always a gamble. Scientists really have no idea what strain will be prevalent each year, but they do have some patters and whatnot to base their prediction off of. Thus, they manufacture what they think the strain will be and sometimes they're right and sometimes they're not. They don't wait for it to happen and then start the manufacturing process, that would take way too long. This "guess" makes it so the flu shot can be a hit or miss, probably why so many people like to make up stories about gov't implanting chips, or crazy stuff like that.

This year, the flu shot does contain the H1N1 strain in it, which is supposedly the main strain going around.

To create and develop the vaccine, the main way to incubate the virus is through eggs. Viruses are not technically "living" thus they can not be killed. However, they can be deactivated, which is what is supposed to be in the vaccination you receive. You should receive a deactivated virus, which your body then sees as a foreign invader. Your body reacts as if it a real threat and goes through the same motions, learning the best way to defeat the virus. Thus, you go through the same symptoms of really being sick. This is probably the main reason why people blame the flu vaccine for them getting sick. While you have the symptoms you can not pass the virus on to other people.

So, why get the vaccine if you go through the same symptoms? Minimizing the spreading of the virus. Increasing the abilities to fend off the virus and minimize the time you become a host and carrier of the virus will decrease the rate it spreads.

I'm really quite curious why your body reacts the way it does, since it's not just a one time thing.

OTOH, glad you feel better. First year I moved in with a family with 2 kids got me sick about 6 times that year, including stuff like bronchitis and pneumonia. Losing 8 pounds in 3 days. However, I must have built a lot of immunities, since I haven't gotten really sick other than annoying coughs since then. And I'm a teacher.

Edit: Also, it becoming cold doesn't really negatively affect your immune system unless you're in severe cold, where you are in danger of getting pneumonia or other illnesses due to significant loss of body heat. The reason why people associate being cold to getting sick, is because in the cold months, people tend to stay indoors more, thus increasing the time near other people who are carrying viruses increasing the chances of catching the virus.

Let's clear one thing up...

THE FLU SHOT DOES NOT GIVE YOU IMMUNITY AGAINST THE FLU, EVEN THE STRAINS IN THE VACCINE.

Think of the vaccine as practice laps in F1. Your body gets a chance to know the car and the track a bit before the race. It doesn't mean you'll win but its better than going out cold. Once your body has fought of a specific virus it can much more easily produce antibodies.

You can be vaccinated for H1N1 and still get H1N1, or maybe you get H3N2 or a strain that isn't in this years shot - only the 5 most severe strains based on early projections are included in the vaccine.

This is because most of the symptoms of the flu are not caused directly by the virus, but are caused by your immune systems response. Pollen doesn't make your nose run and your eyes water, your body getting "get that weak **** outa my kitchen!" is what causes the effects we all hate.

This. Your body is "prepared" for a new virus and the idea is not to prevent you from getting sick, it is to get you ready to fight it off when you do so you don't get as sick as you normally would.

Only the top 3 the article said, at least the shot that is out now, and yes, H1N1 is in it this season.

Gotta figure fighting through my back being re-injured, working a ton of hours, having some level of bronchial athsma, working on the house, etc, all in this weather that's cold as heck with what, 0 rain (except this week, but only 1 day) with the air quality being crap, and add in a mix of what I do for work and how many situations I am exposed to I'm gonna just say it was a perfect situation for things to go haywire.

I wanted to ask the lady from the CDC some more questions but she seemed to be on a mission, polite as she was, she shut me down when I asked anything relavent or off-sided and deferred to the "You should ask your physician this.".

I asked my physician, i asked my medical, their reasoning is the same as mine just add in the "Well, you didn't die from H1N1 so that's a small victory." and you start to see the stress a few people heard me voice early on.

I've been back at work since Monday, yesterday I was feeling closer to what I consider "normal". That said I still got up today and had an upset stomach and light cough. I'm just gonna take it a day at a time and try to be more wary of who's hands I shake, etc.

Maybe institute a fist pound/bump or **** handshake.
