I'll be using Subaru synthetic (5w30) from the first oil change. I'll let you know how that goes.

Once your rings are seated there's no reason you can't run synthetic, why wait til 35k? Paul hooked me up with some Motul full synthetic and I have no complaints, no oil consumption after 4k miles at 330 WHP.

Castrol GTX or Valvoline is what I'd use for conventional oil, 5w30. I used GTX for first 10K or so (changed at 1K for first time), then switched to Valvoline MaxLife full synthetic 5w30. I'm at 60K now, no unusual oil consumption, I do oil changes every 4-5K. I use old black Subaru oil filters, I stocked up on them before they went extinct.

Last time I did an oil change, I used Shell Rotella 5w40 full synthetic, I'll be running that from now on. Rotella also comes in conventional form, cheap good oil. Valvoline MaxLife also comes in a blend, that stuff is good too.

That's the only way to go. We stocked up with half a case of them - didn't want to grab an entire 50 pack of them....

Why the arbitrary number of 10k?
