Depends, we are self sustaining(our own foundry, sort and test floors) and sometimes wafers will come out of fab at 5pm on a friday and have to be shipped for assembly monday so we hang around and make sure our test setup works good. Thankfully most of our parts are low end analog and mixed signal, so debug can usually be done in one night(our big market is voltage regs and power management... yawn.)
I only do 2 projects a year test engineering whise these days, I'm a twin role type guy. My main role is Senior Test Eng, but I'm also the test group IT manager and take care of all of the servers and networking for the testers and handlers(I have two tech that work for me). I like it because I always have interesting stuff to do and when I don't feel like doing anything I claim server troubles and disappear into the sever shack, lock the door and play doom 3 lol.
