Fighting dogs
Hey so sorry in advance its my first time adding pics. Anyway I have 2 dogs, my gf's purebred husky and my rescue/street dog pitbull. We had the husky for a few months before the pitbull dropped into our lives. The dogs got along fine, and seemed to like each other for a few months. I injured myself and being short on cash we didnt get the dogs spayed before they both had periods
Anyway they are both spayed now but for the last month or so HATE each other. Anytime they get within a foot of each other they go for each others throats. Wondering if
A) any dog owners have advice or
B) know any reputable trainers in the greater bay area, preferably solano county
thanks!

They were in heat not having periods...
They probably got a long because they were still puppies. From my experience they should be okay with one another if they grew up together. They are bonded through pack mentality. It could be something in the room/area that triggers their aggressiveness towards each other ex. (toys, food,)
How much interaction have they had with other dogs? You can try muzzling both dogs (for safety) and then correcting their behavior when they "go at it". Correcting by putting the dogs on their back and holding them until they stop. Just like pupping training. Become the dominate/pack leader.
I'm sure there are many helpful tips you can search for on google/youtube/doggy forums.
I'm no means a dog trainer all the stuff I wrote about is from experience.
I hope you get these resolved! Good luck.

Both females? They may never get along. My mom has two dogs that are sisters and can't be left alone in the house or they will try to kill one another. There is no alpha male who would be the clear dominant one so they are constantly fighting to be the dominant dog.
Seems to be how it is with female dogs.

Just wanted to get this out of they way but are you sure they're not just sparring?
I have two big dogs adn they go at it all the time. Teeth out, full on biting and sometimes barking.
I would say just let them figure it out among themselves. Someone is going to get their *** kicked but that will clear up who the alpha dog is.
Doing a search I came up with this:

ya they are for sure not sparring. they go for each others throats and only stop because we have to pull them apart. my friends have gotten bit in the process. they have both had interaction with other dogs, ie friends dogs and dog parks. both are pretty obedient alone as well. tried the muzzle thing and they still go after each other. anyway, thanks for the input!
what my sister did with both her female dogs was let them do their thing and then she would step in without touching them. She would yell very loud "Hey Stop That" and hit something to make a loud noise to show she is the one in charge, worked like a charm. Now when they even think about growling at one another she just says "hey" softly and they both look at her and they stop. But try different methods if nothing works a trainer might be last choice Good Luck.
Like they're saying, get big, put your arms in the air and yell as deep as you can whenever they go at it. Having muzzles around is a great idea. Females are strange... I had a male black lab that was aggressive. For the most part once he bit a dog once and got it to submit, they would go on to be buddies. Females may go on being aggressive until they are retrained to something bad happening every time they go to fight, like a loud noise that will distract them. Try a really loud can with pennies in it or an air horn, depending on your living situation. Dogs are creatures of habit, if they come to realize that fighting = bad/scary **** happening, maybe they won't fight anymore.
Some people also believe in soothing the animals when they get in this mood...idk about that. I would just say distract them from fighting no matter what.
Good luck, I'm planning on picking up another dog from the shelter soon, making 3 in my house. So far so good as far as temperment goes (both submissive) so I'm not too worried here...

Pitbulls tend to play very rough. I've had two (an older female and a younger female). They usually got along great, but they did play very rough at times. You'll learn when their growls and playing is serious and went its just fun. For them being in heat, female dogs really don't like to be messed with. When the older female pitbull I had was in heat and the younger one wasn't, she would be in all out ***** mode at times. Just like a human woman in their time of the month, they are times they aren't in a good mood at all. Try using a break stick, which is a stick (you can use a pipe or pole from a broom) that is used to smack the ground right near them. The loud noise usually cracks their attention and breaks them apart. You can also use a hose on them. Cold water sprayed in their face also breaks their attention. I would keep monitoring them, some dogs get along great at a young age then grow apart and become aggressive towards each other.

Having two female pit bulls myself, the only real thing to do is to let them go at each other. my girls were 6 years apart in age.
Once my younger female went into her first heat, it was game ON with the older female. She kept trying to assume the alpha dog position. countless trips to the ER with the younger one, she finally started to get the idea, but would occasionally test the boundries only to be told where he place was again.
if i were you i would take them to a local trainer who specializes in terrier breeds or aggressive breeds. They will know the most on how to curb he behavior. Try contacting youre local ASPCA or shelter for referrals.
You and your girl should also dominate both dogs, so that they know not to act that way in your presence... they see you as equals and have no problem fighting in front of you.

B*tchez be crazy yo! Sorry, my attempt at humor.
Very beautiful looking dogs. husky's are my all time favorite dogs. I would say there are lots of good advice above. I definitely like the muzzle idea.
