extended warranty really needed?
i bought my STi back in june, and i keep hearing more and more about how useless the extended warranty is.. and how i have to go in every 4-5k miles to get oil changes and stuff. do i really need this warranty? becuase im pretty sure i can reimburse myself if i want to. would my car be fine with the regular warranty? I'm not completely sure cuz i dont remember but im pretty sure 40k miles is when the regular warranty ends.. plus i wanna install a downpipe in my car
and i dun wanna violate warranty if i have to go in every 4-5k miles.. heheh
if anyone could give me advice that'd be tight.. thanks

I got mine for free so I was all for it but I have yet to use the warrenty for anything. These cars are very reliable if you take good care of them so I don't think its very important.
As for your worries about the exhaust, just change your own oil.

DP install $80 bucks = worth the weight in gold....
I for one will not loose sleep over an $80 re-install to cover warranty..
Besides it is all about being fast and have fun while we do modification stuff on our rides..
"Unless you want to be a regular STi then HMMMM!
I know a few WRX that can go around regular STi's

When I orignally bought my car, I also purchased the extended warranty and free oil change service plan. But I asked around, and got out of both plans. SOA sent me a check for both, and I bought mods with it.
If you are going to mod your car, there is a very high chance your warranty can be voided. You will lose out on the money you pay for extended warranty if you have your warranty voided. The extended warranty plan is good for a normal person who just drives their car, and never mods it.

Another thing to remember is that these extended warranties that your dealer offers are not from Subaru, they are just an insurance company your dealership acts as a middle man for, usually an insurance company right in your town that will sell you the extended warranty for much cheaper if you go straight to them in the first place and cut your dealership out of the picture
is it too late for me to cancel my extended warranty? i think i bought the 60k one, its almost two years, and my odometer reads 30k already. you think it has been too long already?
sorry for highjacking glen.

I bought it for the WRX and when i wanted to mod......it was that one purchase that made me keep to minor cosmetic mods, as i did not want to void something that i bought in the first place.
As for the STi, you'll save a large sum of money if you decide to learn how to do simple bolt-on mods yourself. I find it a hassle personally to go get an appointment at the dealership for things like changing brakepads/oils when it only takes a few tools and you can do it at home whenever you have free time. Who knows, you might get more satisfaction working on your own car. Rather than tell everyone its "in the shop" you can say "i put it on this weekend" with emphasis on "I".
That being said, i have yet needed to get anything repaired under warranty.

I thought they could only void certain parts of the warranty? I guess even if you only had a TT they could void electronics huh.
"Um, we can't fix this for you"
"why not?"
"it would seem that your header is interfering with the CD player operation"

IMO, extended warranties are not worth the money. If you read carefully, they only cover defective parts and you still have to pay a deductible ($50-100, depending on the warranty you have). It doesn't cover anything they deem would be wear and tear (brakes, clutch, tranny, etc.) You're better off saving the money and if something does break (knock on wood), use that money to repair that part.
sjiice- you can still cancel your extended warranty and get a pro-rated refund on the original purchase price minus a $25 dollar processing fee.
