Dear Friends,
I came back from Israel 2 weeks ago after not having visited in 7 years. I was shocked by the poverty all around me-the closed shops and restaurants in downtown Tel Aviv, the unemployment, the stories of hunger and hopelessness. Living in the diaspora, we all have the power to help.
Every time you go to the supermarket by at least one Israeli product (they have pickles, cheeses, olives, sauces, soups, chocolates, cookies, candy, tehina, chumous, ready salads and dips, pretzels
etc.).
There are 200 000 Jews in Canada. If everyone bought an Israeli product every 2 weeks, that would be around $200000 making it to the Desperate economy every few weeks just from Canada. If the
idea caught on with American Jews, that could be $5.2 million every couple of weeks.
So, even if it you don't need it, if it is more expensive than a Canadian or American product, if it looks less appetizing than
it's North American counterpart, BUY IT. Help Israel.
Tell all your friends. Jewish kids are going to school hungry. The economy is in shambles. Factories are closing. There are boycotts of Israeli products in Europe. You can make a difference. Buy blue and white.
Tell all your friends. Pass on this email. Don't forget our brothers and sisters in Israel.

I'm 100% full blooded Red Sea Pedestrian (as Tommy would say)
There's a town in the West Bank that is being fully enclosed by the new wall. This is the wall that was meant to blockade the Green Line. Sharon modified it to encroach beyond the Green Line into WestBank territories. At one point it now surrounds a town of thousands completely. 1/3 of the shops are closed. Unemployment is at an equally alarming rate. And as I'm sure you know these people are often blocked from leaving the town (or even the West Bank) to go to their jobs. This entire wall is costing to the tune of the equivalent of billions of US dollars. It is punishing Palestinians who have nothing to do with terrorism. It is punishing Israelies who want peace by wrecking a large part of their economy.
This wall was spoken against in widely publicized interviews in major Israeli newspapers by many Israeli leaders, mostly from the old, hardline school, including past leaders of the the Israeli intelligence.
Hate and fear is so strong among Israelies its eating them alive. Of course, I haven't even brought up that "unemployment, the stories of hunger and hopelessness" has been the case for Palestinians for decades. Imagine living out of fear so deeply that your hatred is extended against an entire culture. And that hate is so deep that you will not only treat them like animals but you will bring your own selves to economic ruin to achieve... peace?
I have little sympathy for the "Jewish" state that forsakes its own reason for existance:
Dueteronomy 24: 14 You shall not withhold the wages of poor and needy laborers, whether other Israelites or aliens who reside in your land in one of your towns. 15 You shall pay them their wages daily before sunset, because they are poor and their livelihood depends on them; otherwise they might cry to the LORD against you, and you would incur guilt. 16 Parents shall not be put to death for their children, nor shall children be put to death for their parents; only for their own crimes may persons be put to death. 17 You shall not deprive a resident alien or an orphan of justice; you shall not take a widow's garment in pledge. 18 Remember that you were a slave in Egypt and the LORD your God redeemed you from there; therefore I command you to do this.
"Israel" is a sham. It deserves the ruin it brings upon itself. I'm not unfeeling. I hate injustice and violence and oppression of any kind. But I do not feel compassion for people who are being crushed by their own hate and their own disregard for their own cultures code of ethics.

man-
this could get ugly......
but seriously, I don't think "buying Israeli" is going to really do much to affect the conditions of the dispossesed over there, anymore than all the shouting of "buy American" has solved our economic problems.
the hatred has to end, people need to respect one another and treat each other with a modicum of decency, plain and simple.
peace

Well, the tourist business will thrive again once people stop blowing themselves up. If the wall works, then so be it.
It looks like it will save lives on both sides... (disclaimer: that is from my ignorant perspective of course!!! )

Yeah I bet you feel that way about the Hindus too, right Sikh Gagan?!?!?!?
Just because your people have struggled with the Hindus:
*Indira Ghandi/Golden Temple
doesn't mean you know a damned thing about Israel.

man, I hate typical knee-jerk liberal responses so common in the Bay Area
I hate the conservative ones too
this situation, like so many others around the world, is one where both sides are serisouly ****ed up
it's BOTH their faults and we should just stay the **** out of it

let me throw my two pence in on this one.
The state of isreal is an idea, and idea that was executed hastily and with not much thought unto the ramifications in the long term (im talking 50+ years from now). SImply opressing people will not work for ever, yes it may work for a generation or two but in the end it will ALLWAYS end up destroying those who OPRESS and not the opressed. For that i think isreal is a state that for the most part due to its cultural ties and relgious ties is doomed to a spiral of violence and terror. That is of course dependent on the fact of those who the isrealis displaced never fighting for what was once their homes and farm land. I do hope that some sort of peace can be established as there is no need for a state with borders anywhere. (Yes even the us has no need for borders in the modern age)
You will eventually see an imergence of soverign individuals who will not be restrained by affiliations to corrupt and outdated vessels of nationstates. Those who begin that migration will be the leaders of a new era in society, one that is ran by groups of people who may not live in a certain region but are tied together by another form of binding (relgious, moral, sexual, etc). Nation states are shams of an old way of thinking. I see them moving towards a privitization of sorts, basicly providing services for individuals at a price (same idea and concept of taxes and public services but more easily interchangeable and more localized).

hahahahaa
wow i should write a book with all my non sensical musings in it
I shall call it the book of dr3!
