EVO-X Pricing Announced

So you thought the Sti was expensive huh???

SCOTTSDALE, Arizona — Mitsubishi today announced pricing for the highly anticipated 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X. The estimated price for the base-level, five-speed manual-transmission-equipped Evo GSR is $34,000. The MR model outfitted with Mitsubishi's new six-speed dual-clutch transmission identified as the Twin Clutch-Sequential Sportshift Transmission (TC-SST), starts at $39,000.

Outrageous ! I know it's still early in the game, but by all the test drive reviews I've read for both cars, I think the STi is going to take it this time.

Man, this sucks... The whole appeal of Subies and EVOs was because they were affordable and were the best bang for the buck in terms of performance, but now the price is way out of my budget and I'm sure that goes for a lot of you guys... I just find it lame that the EVO and STi are basically $40k with some decent options! 40k, that's FOURTY THOUSAND DOLLARS!!

I'd love to own either of these cars but I just can't picture myself ever paying that much for this type of car. There's still the WRX, but it's way lower than the STi in almost every way but that includes the price... If I got a WRX, I'd always crave the performance and looks of the STi and sort of frown upon my WRX because I know that there is the STi that basically beats the WRX in every category and I'm afraid that I just wouldn't respect my WRX as much because of that... That make any sense? At least if the WRX had the STi body with its fender flares and stuff, but the WRX lacks that as well... I dunno, I just can't see myself driving a WRX knowing that the STi is out there and is so drastically better than the standard WRX... *shrug*

Why does the damn STi and EVO have to be so damn expensive!? I'd probably trade in my 06' for the 08' STi if it was priced the same as the previous STi, but as long as the prices stay the way they are I doubt I'll be getting another subie ever again, that is unless of course the prices are adjusted or the WRX is upgraded in some vital areas to match the STi (like the upgraded fenders and such).

Maybe I'm just **** and picky, but thats how I feel... Damn you SOA & MOA!!!

I agree brucelee, I was just on BMWs site checking out the 335i coupe with the 300hp looks like its 37k. Then the 135i is even cheaper than that!! I would presume my next vehicle down the road being a luxory sports sedan. Subaru went to far with this model. It's going to be like VWs R32, in my eyes, why would I have bought an R32 mini egg, when I could have got the mean STI. Now its why buy an STI when I can get a base corvette, or a high powered BMW.

This type of pricing killed the 300zx and RX-7. Priced out of market.

And the Supra.

It's a shame that Subaru did this... It'll be interesting to see what becomes of it in a couple years... I guess all we can do is sit and watch. I really hope that sales are hurt because of this and Subaru is taught a lesson on price inflation. Is it wrong of me to wish this? Just sucks that true Subaru fans won't be able to afford these cars and they will go to older folks or rich kids whos parents are loaded$$!

Oh yeah, and like other said, there's NO F'ING WAY that the STi costs so much to make that they had to increase the price to what it is... For example, look at the 335i! It's almost the same damn price and look how much more you get (not to mention quality and performance) for your money!!! There's no damn way that the STi needs to be that expensive! Subaru!!

Glad I am not the only one that was thinking this. The 135i is looking fantastic right about now.

Yeah I am tempted to trade in my wagon for the new STi. However, I wouldn't be doing that soon as the pricing + insurance of it is what holding me back. I think subaru is trying to make the Sti into a more prestigous vechile just liek the M3 for the 3 series. They dont' want to make it too affordable so that every other ricer will get one and chase them into a wall.

I would get the current evo if I need to replace my car now.

^^^

I'm surprised that Mitsubishi increased the price of the EVO so drastically... If they would have kept it in the same price range as the last EVO they would have DOMINATED the market and kicked the crap out of the STi in terms of sales. I would DEF get the EVO over the STi if that were the case... No questions asked.
