Question Ever Been to Puerto Rico?

So I’m going to Puerto Rico for a work project for a couple of months (2 weeks on 1 week off, I think) and was wondering if any of you had ever been to Puerto Rico. Basically I'm wondering if you had any thoughts on what I should see. I've checked out the websites and have a list but wanted to know if anyone has had an personal experience.

I'll be staying in Rincon but I'll have a car so I can travel anywhere. Anyone know what places to avoid? I've also registered at the Puerto Rico Subaru club website so hopefully I can link up with them and see some of the Subaru community in the Caribbean.

Thanks.

Thumbs up

Look for "Thunder STi" in the HIIC section. He moved back to PR and has a monster STi.
Lots of drag racers there. Check out the old school Toyotas powered by Mazda 13b 's .

The food is so good you will not be the same when you get back.
Beef with onions (bistec) over rice is the bomb ! The paella is awesome and the service is great. Beer and Mojito dont mix so drink wisely.

Rains alot of and on but 2 to 5 minutes at a time but no big deal so buy a rain coat before going coz it is too expensive there.

They drive good over there and ask any young taxi driver about the drag strip (far away from the Rincon) a.k.a. hotspots on street racing coz we had a blast watching from a distance of corz.

We been there a few times. You will have a blast there kinda like Hawaiian weather but better. The rain forest is one of the spots you have to go and just get with the hotel concierge and ride a tour bus with a group coz you will get tired if you drive and then walk and drive back etc. Plaza Las Americas is the biggest mall there (rolex, diamonds are cheap and you can make deals with no tax etc.) and the women are awesome and friendly. Better get use to the music coz the beat will stay in your mind for ever. The young taxi drivers can sell you CD's of the local hits for $10.

You might wanna go see the Old Fort in Old San Juan and Old San Juan itself with all the history etc. but just park close to the Ferry/downtown area where the big cruise ships dock coz more transportation there and you can even ride a horse carriege etc. and you need not worry about parking and get a compact car not an SUV you will thank me later.

Must see is the Bacardi rum factory, use the ferry boat (cheap less than a buck, and faster) and ride a taxi once on the otherside of the island taxi costs $12 one way with share a ride and go get drunk for free. PLEASE !! If you buy me the Family reserve Rum, I will pay you $10 bucks extra each bottle you take back lol. cant buy that anywhere but over there so really I will pay you $10 extra each bottle on top of the cost, they package it for you and it will not break at all.

Lots more just call me when you are there I can guide you. So much to see there so go have fun and the island never sleeps due to bad crystal meth issues so be carefull at night in remote areas. Stay away from those resort type hotels from far away coz it really does not represent Puerto Rico and you wont have fun at all.

PM Galadiel and the big valley guys over at Nasioc.

There's more 10 second (and probably 9 second for that matter) WRXs in PR than in the rest of the continental US combined

YES! they do have french fries at Taco Bell!!! =)

Go to the west coast!
TEH! beach rocks, especially the one in city of Aguadilla, Crash Boat! The water temp. stays pretty much the same if you go during the day (10a-3p) Is a shame you have to go to PR so late during the year, but never too late!

If you feel like eating anything... try the fancy Ice Cream in city of Lares. Is a famous for their many exotic flavors (including BEANS!, cod fish and rice with chicken). I have to admit that I have never been to that place myself but all of my family and friends have and they think is great! But is the first place to go on my list for next time D and I go. Hehe!

If you are thinking about bringing back some booze, there is a certain alcohol % volume permitted on a plane so be very careful what you buy b-cause PR is famous for its high % volume. You may end up having to leave your fancy rum @ the airport or hide it really well in your luggage (if you want to risk it). I wouldn't recommend it but it's your call.

...about Rolex.... you will only find original copies at some jewelry stores...the rest are fake.

PR is a nice place to visit! Have fun!

M J I beg to differ bro..

HMMM ! In my numerous trips to PR I have never heard of this (how many times have you been there and know of a person getting stopped restricted to confirm this?) unless you bring them back by the truck loads. I take back at least half a case everytime no issues or hassle.

I have family employed by US Customs and I have asked upon reading this reply.

First of, items are never taken away/left at the airport and items confiscated requires that you fill out a form if you want to contest an item so you can have it back upon inspection when they suspect and confiscate.

Second and most important you have to be talking about cases and cases of alchohol that exeeds a certain dollar amount so please dont burn my chances of getting a bottl;e or two of the best Family Reserve Rum edition you will ever taste/consume. You basically just scared him to death, PR is a US territory no dif than going to Hawaii etc.

You must be talking about international flights that restricts commodities coming in the US and you can only take back $400 of personal items purchased as a US citizen and subject to inspection on the declared items that customs want to see as a visitor and a resident card holder it would not be the same as a US citizen. Need not declare I say.

So Gino, you are saying you want cases and cases of Family Reserve Private Rum? If all goes well I'll be leaving on the 31st and comimng back Nov 9th. I might be going there several times over the next few months so Gino you may actually get a case load of rum over the months. It also works out nicely that my new office is down the street from your shop.

Thanks for all the tips guys!
