anybody read the R32 review on the San Jose Mercury News today?

paraphrase: "The STi or EVO would lay the proverbial smackdown on the R32, but that makes little difference to VW enthusiasts (ney--fanatics ), because it's the best Golf that VW offers right now."

Reads to me like a major diss...despite the fact the reviewer gave it four stars.

the funny part is i was told by a VW dealer himself that the GTI 20V Turbo is faster than the R32 because of the weight of AWD and the V6

thats bs. the r32's are known to run high high 13's to low 14's stock. the gti 20v turbo runs low 15's at best and the 20th/337 run very very high 14's. i ran a 20th anniversary with chip, intake, exhaust, dv, downpipe, and some other mods and we ran from a 10mph roll, he got the initial pull on me about a car length but after that, at almost about 100mph i was about 1.5 cars in front and still pulling. we did this a couple of times and the guy was so amazed, started yelling out at me, holy ()@# that car is a beast. that made my day.

i've ridden in a stock r32 at the track and they handle like front wheel drive cars because of the way the awd bias is set up. not only that, but my wrx could easily smoke the r32. the extra weight means a lot in the corners esp when i feel the wrx is too heavy.... but that aside, the recaro seats are very nice hahahaha

If you don't like that I wouldn't reccomend looking at the price tag of the Phaeton, v8 or w12.
