My wife is down in the Bay Area. She took the spare key without an alarm fob. Is the all metal key (no plastic) a valet key?

The alarm is going off and she can't start the car. She is not currently with the car, but I am trying to get her an answer before she tries again so she can get back up today.

Will the 3x on/off ignition cycle reset thing work with the valet key? It is an 02 WRX. Can someone try it for me real quick?

 

that year doesn't have anything special so the key should work, you have to turn it on and off in the ignition a bunch of times, 10 is probably safe

 

for my 02 WRX the instructions said turnin th ignition three times. Once she gets it off, tell her to lock the doors with the key/key hole, as the lock button inside will arm the alarm again.
