Wow.. that's a pretty good one but its not that bad.
I don't see any buildings or bridges coming down on it. But it is a wake up call for the big one we all know is coming soon.

5.8 really isn't a drastic earthquake. It's big enough to rattle stuff around, but not really big enough to do much damage (not in California at least). Actually it is a good thing to have earthquakes like this as it helps relieve pressure from the fault lines thus decreasing the potential size of the "Big One" when a Big One does finally hit.
Here is an example as this one hit the Bay Area last Halloween.

Pretty much the exact same size and really no damage was done.

my brother lives pretty close to where it happened, tried calling but no answer, tried texting, but no text back. hope he and everyone down there is ok.
Everything should be ok, been listening to the news and doesn't seem like anything is damaged. No injuries really to be reported. So your brother should be ok.
Some damage to phone lines, Verizon is trying to get it all up and running again shortly. We were texting each other after it happened and nothing was really going through, so it's probably stuck in limbo until lines cleared up.
Judging by your post at 1:48, you've probably already talked to your brother since your post, as the phone lines are, for the most part, up now. Or just keep dailing, we had to dial 20+ times or so to finally get through to anyone

My brother and wife and kids were at Disneyland visiting from Arizona. They got kicked out of Disneyland due to the earthquake. Guess after they tested the rides to make sure they were damaged they were allowed back in. But they definitely felt it.

Please don't call cell phones (in so cal, up here it doesn't matter since our towers are up) unnecessarily, as the few towers that are up will be needed for more important matters other than just asking friends if they're okay. Land lines or email if possible.
I have a whole bunch of friends that are pretty close to Chino Hills, and I even got an emergency text from Cal Poly, but it seems like nothing bad happened. Good news to anyone with family in the general area.

I havent heard that anyone was hurt. I live right now about 30 minutes from the center of where the quake happened, just felt the ground move kinda like a wave that lasted quite few seconds.
