Sorry to hear and good thing you had your leather on. It's amazing how much of a difference it can make. First fall?

Luckily the whole SUV fad is going out of style but not fast enough in your case

What about bikers that hit and run all the time while splitting traffic?

I have seen more than a few scratch the **** out of cars & break off mirrors while splitting lanes...and then taking off.
yea, i know there are dumb A**'s that act stupid and split lanes. i even KNOW some people that have scratched and broke off side mirrors... tisk tisk. but i'm not one of them! i only split lanes when i have to i hate doing it but i'm careful!

and to those people who didn't help me pick up and 300+ pound bike thanks for just going around me. geez people these days.
I went down hard with my first bike about 4 years ago, and it was on a backroad, so no one to help out. Believe me, it's not fun, luckily I was able to walk away, although sort of hobbling rather than walking. Mostly glad to hear you're alright. At least you probably didn't do about $4800 damage like I did.

Glad you walked away from that. I haven't gone down YET! Always try to ride like I'm invisible and/or they're out to get me. So far it's either working or I'm just lucky. Maybe a lil of both.

But I always wear at least my jacket, even on short trips. A few weeks ago when we had that little heat wave, I rode without my jacket just because it was so hot. I felt naked haha. I just picked up a mesh jacket this weekend for the warmer days. Once you get rolling, it really does let the air through.

Ugh =( Hwy9 the motorcycle "racetrack" of the bay area. I've picked up my fair share of strangers bikes on that hwy and had my own incident that destroyed my last bike on there (completely not my fault). The biker drag knee on there, there are hordes of people going to and from work or to the beach, there are kamikaze cyclist and the roads are narrow. Get over that and its a really fun road. I believe the put in these groves on the DY to help keep traffic on their own side which doesn't help any riders who go wide haha.

Also I feel the same way about Lane sharing, I only do it when I need to. most of the time I very cautiously share lanes on the freeway with lots of traffic, or expressway. and When I feel like the people behind me wont see me while I sit behind the car (i.e. when I'm stuck riding during dusk). Once I made the horrible choice to go to Stocton from San Jose on a weekday during rush hour...... wow I'm pretty sure I lane split most of the way 'til 99, wasnt fun

bottom line... people are selfish ****** and the world revolves around them.

many many people just don't care. they aren't looking for other cars let alone bikes and often to a point that they truly would not realize that they caused a wreck.

I went down on my bike (mtb) once and was in the middle of a busy intersection. multiple lanes in all directions, stop light, etc. Cars were literally driving around me on the ground. I was down long enough that two kids from an apartment across the street had time to run down and out of their place and where the first to get there. The only car that stopped to help was a pizza delivery kid. I've been hit MULTIPLE times on my bike and had cars just drive away. Including one that blew up pretty much the entire left side of my torso. I tore damn near everything and my face bounced of her windshield. Left me there. One I took a mirror in the rips and it sent me into a curb and over a sidewalk fortunately into some thorny *** bushes and not a pole.

people are selfish.

Keep your head on a swivel. I'm glad you made it out alright. Good luck with insurance and your bike repairs. Stay safe. Hopefully someone saw something and reports it.

Leathers are the ONLY way to go! HOT or COLD! Mesh doesn't hold up to the jagged asphalt! And the vest... don't want to do it. I went down on my Dainese leather once, not a scratch on me.

Not just petite ladys. I was damn near t-boned by a Mid-40s white guy in a jeep. "he heard me but didn't see me" so he claimed it was not his fault because of that. BS...

I believe those people who get scratched of mirrors wacked off deserve it... (most of them anyways). It only happens usually when the DRIVER of the car isnt paying any attention or intentionally (in jealousy usually) try to block us out--creating a very dangerous situation for bikers. Happened to me more a few times (and i ride conservatively when splitting).

This reminds me of a story my friend told me when he rear ended a car in traffic that came onto the fast lane out of nowhere. He said it all happened in slo mo and flew 30+ feet from the crash.. pretty much airborne the entire way.

He said an accident like that you would think that his whole life flashed before his eyes but instead.. all he thought about was.. "****, my mom's gonna kill me!" haha.. it was a great story. He made out okay since he was wearing leather and didn't get hit by any other cars.

Hurrrrrd that... I didn't tell me mom until I had gotten my replacement bike which was like 7 months later, I showed up, and she was like " Sam.... was your bike always black..... and had two exhaust on it?....?" Haha then I sat her down and told the story. Told her about crazy accident and the front flip she was the whole time. But since I was fine, nothing broken and new bike. She really couldn't worry too much.

During impact my life didn't flash before my eyes I just kept thinking " W......T......F !!!" lol

Walking away from a motorcycle accident unhurt is the best feeling ever.

when that car came out in front, i hit the fender, did a superman, landed on the floor like someone throwing a teddy bear across the room. All i remember thinking was "ooooooooh crap..... this is gonna hurt...WTF... lucky i have my good gear on..." (while i was flying in the air). I think i flew clear across the intersection...landed on the back of my left side head, neck, and shoulder....blacked out for a second...came to with nothing broken and no scrapes.

Thank god I chose to purchase "GOOD" gear. Suomy helmet, dainese leathers , and gloves (LEATHER!). Best investments of my life...

Dont skimp on the gear! Trust me...
