I don't really see anything wrong with that convo really. Sounds like anytime I try to sell something on CL, I always get texts saying "will you take x amount?" which is always waaaay low. I don't even bother replying with other than "no". At least he gave you a little detail. He offers a service, at said price the end. He obviously not in the friendship business, lol.
I'd be interested to see his retrofits.

I don't mind paying a little more to a local vendor. We all like having local vendors around so why not give them your business? Can they give you the same price as amazon? No, almost no one can but they are local and can give better service than a giant company.

I didn't see anything wrong except the bold part. You definitely acted like one.
Different businesses have different overhead costs. A smaller guy will have less pricing clout than companies like Amazon. The guys wasn't fascious or rude; just stated his cost of things to give it one last shot at a deal. You chose to be the d*ck and escalate the conversation. You could have easily ended it with "Understood, unfortunately that's still not within my budget". Also, a little price premium can be worth it with a local vendor if things don't go as planned and/or you need additional assistance.
So the name of the thread shoulf really be changed to "Don't sell things to this broke cheapskate only looking for mad tyte deals yo".
