Im looking at is more in terms of going to work in wealth management, I know both Wells and BofA are about to go on huge hiring binges and that wealth management professionals will be in high demand in the near future.
I'm not Series 7, but 6/63 in my position at my Credit Union.
www.kaplanfinancial.com or http://www.kfeducation.com/ (the Securities side).
I did their studying manual, web&book tests with CD-ROM to test. Worked well for me.
Tho I thought a company had to "sponsor" you or something like that to take the test. Not sure, check in to that tho.
G/L.

Ive got a series 7,6 and 63. It wasn't that tough, just need to put in some time. I gave myself about a month of studying evenings after. So, just give yourself plenty of time, you definitely don't want to cram last minute. Also, take as many practice exams as you can.
I still have the book that I used if you need to borrow it. The firm sponsoring you should provide it to you, but some companies make each person pay for it, and then they are reimbursed after they pass. Let me know! There are also 1 week long classes that I hear are very useful. They teach you how to pass, and not necessarily the things you need to know to work in finance.

If you are a good studier I'm sure it wouldn't be too hard. I work for a bank and was offered to be series 7 qualified (at the banks expense) but I declined.... definitely not the job for me. One of the girls I worked with ended up going through all the training/studying and got through it first try but quit after a year. She hated it.
