DIY Days?

I was wondering if there are any shops that host do it yourself days where they allow people to come into the shop and rent/use shop time in order to work on their cars. I know it sounds like a dumb question because I am sure the shop would loose a l money on the deal...but for people like me who don't have anywhere to work on their cars it would be nice to get an education as well as have the correct tools available. Anyone know of anything like this... I would use my buddies places but my friends houses aren't always as reliable as I would hope for.

I don't think insurance policies allow shops to let customers use their tools.

Shops don't do this... if they do they're crazy.

But sometimes members will set up DIY days. Bunch of folks meet at one house and work on each other's cars. My experience with this hasn't been so good. Usually people stare at you and expect you to install all their isht while they watch.

But you can try to set one up.

-Hand Tools <check>
-Low Profile jack, 3-ton jackstands and ramps <check>
-Subaru knowledge <if 4+ years working in Subaru Parts Depts. counts, check>

Greg, host an install day! I need to flip my intake manifold around.

Bonus points if I can leave my car there when I cant get it running again.

If you're in the military - but all the Hobby Shop workers I dealt with couldn't lend you the right tool, let alone work on Subarus...

...but I'm sure that varies by base. Base experience with Port Hueneme and Pt. Mugu Naval Stations.
