Diffrence between regular smog and STAR smog?

So in order to renew my registration i need to go to a STAR cert. smog shop. Im confused as is it another name for gold shield smog, or is it totally different. And if anyone can tell how they go bout' smogging our car? Cause ive never seen a 4whe dyno smog shop yet. So if anyone know please inform me about what a STAR smog is and how they smog our suby...

P.s its my first time smogging a suby

Same thing happened to me on my last smog. I went to a couple places that failed me on the visual because of a silicon After MAF hose and silicon ancillary hoses that I didn't have CARB stickers for(???). The third place did the visual, ran the test, and then after I passed I did see the techs talking and pointing at stuff under my hood like they may fail me but they didn't.
