Star smog center? stage 2 to stock Smog help please.
So i got my reg in the mail and need to do a smog but it says i need to do it at a star smog station,What exactly is that vs a normal smog station? Also i would like to know what exactly do i need to do to pass smog on my car,I have been all over reading but still a bit confused on what exactly i can do.Here is what i have
2002 wrx (reg says 2001 not sure why? My 10 Digit # is a 2 on my vin so that would indicate 2002)
171k miles
Cobb SRI
JDM V7 catless uppipe
HKS catless downpipe
Tanabe exhaust
Cobb AP stage 2 (ots map)
My plan was to put the stock intake, downpipe, exhaust and since the Cobb AP is plug & play put the stock map on,what im confused about is the up pipe. From reading the AP turns off sensors and since i have the up pipe on with out a plug on should i leave the stage 2 map on?I have the resistor aswell but read that it will shoot a error.I was also told that the smog has also changed any vehicle 2000 and newer does not use the sniffer only the OBD port and are allowed 2 ready loops to be off or something like that.I really do not want to swap the up pipe again any help will be greatly appreciated..

my understanding is you don't even need to flash back to stock. all you need is the stock downpipe on to pass the sniffer. visual is another thing, but as long as you are carb legal then it should be fine. if you are not carb legal on supporting mods, hopefully they are stock location aka TMIC or are not flashy (turbo).
Note: if you do flash back to stock, be sure to do it well before you go to get smogged as the ecu needs to "learn" your car again. I flashed just before I smogged and failed. The technician said I need to log miles on it and re-smog. Drove about 80 miles and passed.

Yes I am doing the same thing, put the stock dp and stock intake on flashed the stock map back on, went to go and failed because I didn't have enough miles. I failed the visual as well though.

Like Mr. West said, just replace your downpipe. you should still pass with the exhaust because its not illegal, hell my friend passed without an axle back on lol.
make sure your intake has the Carb sticker, if not youll fail the visual.
flash back to stock, drive for 50-100 miles and take it easy on the car, go to smog and pass.

Its more political bs. The smog procedure is identical. If your vehicle is directed to go to a Star station you can go to a Star test only or Star test and repair.
cliffs: Star is the new test only/gold shield

How many times does it need to be said on these forums that YOU DO NOT NEED TO FLASH BACK TO STOCK TO PASS SMOG.
OP- Swap downpipe to stock, have EO number for intake. Go get smogged. Also- sniffer is still being used but you should have no problem with that.
